“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” -Marilyn Monroe The warm weather has crept up on us fast! If you’re like me, you probably found yourself scrambling to dig out your flip-flops and sandals from your dorm room last week. You may have noticed your warm weather footwear is a little out of style, so now is the perfect time to give you the campus kicks update for spring! |
Campus Kicks for a Cause4/9/2012 |
What’s the latest UConn Campus Kicks trend? Going barefoot! Instead of updating you on what Campus Kicks to be wearing, I’ll be telling you about why you should be kicking them off! I had the opportunity to speak with Shaynna Cutler, the Chief Organization Officer of the TOMS Campus Club here at UConn. I learned all about the TOMS story and the upcoming event they will be hosting, One Day Without Shoes. Most students are familiar with the TOMS name and the signature shoe design, but are not aware of the mission behind the organization. The TOMS organization was started by Blake Mycoskie in an effort to provide shoes for children in developing countries. He created the TOMS shoe company in 2006 with the mission tag line, One for One, donating one pair of shoes for every pair bought. This project was initially focused in Argentina, with a first drop off of 10,000 pairs of shoes, and since then has expanded to 23 other countries. As of October 2011, the TOMS organization has donated a total of over 2 million pairs of shoes! The TOMS mission has now expanded to college campuses across the country. I spoke with Shaynna Cutler about her experiences with TOMS and how she got involved at UConn. Shaynna has always been a TOMS follower and applied to be a campus director last spring to bring the organization to UConn. The TOMS Campus Club was started this past fall with the goal to spread awareness about the TOMS story and its mission. Since the club has started, there have been several events on campus including various documentary screenings. Their largest event, One Day Without Shoes, is coming up this week on Tuesday, April 10th. |

Campus Kicks: Fall Boots10/15/2011 |
“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” Fall has officially arrived, so ladies, it’s time to trade in the summer flip flops for some new fall footwear. Staying up to date with the latest trends for each new season can seem like an overwhelming and expensive task, especially on a college student budget. Never fear, we’ll help you stay in the loop on the latest campus trends and just where to find them. The hot trends for this fall season are tall riding boots and ankle booties. Great for walking around campus, to class or dressing up for an evening out. These styles are a must have that you will definitely want to add to your wardrobe! Choose from a variety of styles, textures, colors and patterns to find the pair that will be a perfect addition to your fall essentials. Flat riding boots are a perfect complement to almost any fall outfit, whether you choose to sport them with casual jeans or with a fall dress for a more feminine touch. Wear them just below the knee or pull them over the knee. Choose among leather or suede, black or brown. For a bold statement purchase boots with various embellishments such as an exposed zippers, buckles, laces or studs.
