6 FREE Health and Wellness Apps You Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Keeping up with your health tends to be left behind on the list of “things to do” during the week. Being a busy college student can be exhausting, and most of the time, students feel like there is no way they can be both a student and healthy. On average most college students get 1-2 hours less sleep than the recommended 8 hours, 41.6% of college students have anxiety, and only 43.6% of students met the recommended amount of moderate to vigorous exercise during the week. Classes are important, but students need to treat themselves. Here are some apps to get you back on track.

Plant Nanny

Plant Nanny is a water tracking app that makes it fun to drink water. How it works is you set up a plant on the app that you water each time you drink water and log it. Each time you get to your daily goal your plant will grow. However, if you don’t log your water the plant dies. It is so satisfying to watch your plant grow up into a beautiful flower, and so sad when it begins to die. This app was the top-rated app of 2013, and top rated in 15 countries. Get your drink on with this fun app!

Sleep is vital to college students, but most students can confess they aren’t getting enough of it. Sleep Cycle is an intelligent alarm clock that analyzes your sleep, and wakes you up in the lightest sleep phase. Normal Alarms can be abrupt, and can leave you feeling groggy. With this app you choose a time frame for the app to wake you up, and through its monitoring it will determine the best possible time your body is ready to wake up. I will say I was skeptical of this app, but the first time I tried it, the app woke me up before my normal alarm, but I felt energized and wanted to get up. This app will also track your sleep patterns, and let you know how well your sleeping. Don’t wake up groggy anymore, get this app!

Power Nap

Everyone loves a good nap, but sometimes you sleep too much, and feel even more tired than you did before the nap. Power Nap is a great app to help you determine the perfect amount of nap time your body needs. The timer only goes up to 30 minutes because that’s the recommended maximum nap time. It also has relaxing noises to put you to sleep faster, and soft sounds to wake you gentler. Also, there is a little kitten to greet you as you wake up on the screen. If you love naps, you should get this app.
