Emerson has always been a chapter that liked to take risks, so emailing the chapter network to spotlight different Her Campus Chapters at other schools was no different.  One of the schools that we have decided we wanted to introduce to you, is the chapter at Siena College. The school is located in Loudonville, NY, and was founded as an all-male school in 1937. Because of that history, HC Siena is extremely proud to be a women-founded club at the school! The HC Siena team is made up of 45 members who support and empower each other while connecting and learning how to rise above differences.

With 45 active members, the Siena chapter relies heavily on their executive board, which is made up of four members.  First, their Co-Campus Correspondents Emily and Alyssa. Emily is an actuarial science and economics major in her junior year at Siena.  While she finds she is more number-oriented, she loves being a part of Her Campus. She loves math, but besides that, she also loves old Disney channel movies, Florence and the Machine, a nice home cooked meal, and her goldendoodle. And, if you want to keep up with Emily’s adventures, you can find her on Instagram: @emilyweinert!

Her Co-CC, Alyssa Guzman is also a junior at Siena College, and is the acting Editor-in-Chief for Her Campus Siena. Alyssa is a double major in both English and communications journalism.  As if two majors wasn’t already enough, Alyssa also has a minor in writing and communications. Alyssa aspires to be a New York Times Bestselling Author in Fiction, but wants to get her feet wet in the world of journalism first.  Alyssa dreams of writing for Cosmopolitan (Hey! Emerson Alum, Faye Brennan, check out Alyssa’s work here!!) or the New York Times. In her free time, she enjoys fashion, writing, and listening to the newest Taylor Swift release (Writer’s note: Alyssa, call me if you want to fangirl over TS, because I have a lot of thoughts and need other outlets to express them).

Working in conjunction with the CCs, HC Siena also has two more members of their executive board!  Carli Scolforo is their senior editor, and also has a double major in English and communications, set on a journalism track.  Carli loves ‘80s movies (writer’s note: Better Off Dead is one of the best ‘80s movies of all time, and only the true stans know), late night comedy, and finding new brands through live shows.  She also has a show at Siena’s radio station, so if you’re interested, tune into 88.3 from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday! Additionally, Siena has Mayely Vasquez-Vega, who acts as the team’s social media coordinator.  Mayely is a senior and is majoring in management!

In looking through the features of the past year, the team picked out their favorites, which included: “What Can You Do As A Marketing Major?” by Diosmary Perez Trinidad, Holly Bednarek’s “Broke College Girl – Waitressing Edition,” “Tips On How To Make Your Long Distance Relationship Work,” by Miranda Almodovar, “How To Prepare Your Little Brother For Siena Fest,” by Emily Weinert, and “I Used To Hate Chunk Heels, But Now I’ve Embraced Them,” by Alyssa Guzman.  All of these articles are well worth the read and prove that HC Siena knows how to diversify their content to appeal to their readers.

Additionally, the chapter also picked out their favorite profiles from the last year.  The selections included: “Mr. Siena 2019 – Meet Thom Schlinck,” by Kathryn Anderson, “Butch Keneston, Friar Caretaker,” by Marilyn Keneston, and Hannah Gallagher’s article entitled, “Julia Bryant ’22, Academia and Athletics.”  When it comes to writing profiles, HC Siena knows what they’re doing, so definitely give these a read when you get the chance!

As we all know though, Her Campus isn’t just about writing, it is also about the events put on by the chapters to grow and bond.  HC Siena loves throwing events, and every year, they plan a holiday party, which, when we asked, they said was their favorite team memory.  Everyone gets dressed up in holiday attire and gathers for a photoshoot and food! They are also hosting a women’s drive this semester. They are planning to partner with a local women’s center where they will host a luncheon, followed by a table set up at one of the Siena College Basketball Team’s home games in order to collect donations for the center.

Siena is recognized by HCHQ as a diamond level chapter, which is the second highest rank that can be obtained, and they are only a small school of about 3,000 people.  If this doesn’t show the hard work and dedication that this chapter has, I don’t know what does! Even as a high ranking chapter, Siena’s team has the goal to get to know each other more and to foster the relationships between their members to help them make new friends and network! They are extremely ambitious, as I’m sure you can imagine, and they have a few big events planned for the rest of the year that they are looking to accomplish, so keep your eyes peeled.

If you are just starting your journey at Siena, or you are looking to join some new clubs, you can always check out Her Campus Siena at the club fair to get involved!  They’ll be the ones handing out the carnations! If you are looking to find them online, however, you can certainly find them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!  If that’s not enough for you though, you can also check out their Pinterest, or stay up to date on their most recent articles on their Her Campus page

Lastly, we asked HC Siena to describe their chapter in 3 words to which the CCs responded: “Driven, Determined, and Diligent. Here at Siena, we are committed to making Her Campus an amazing experience. All of our members work hard to get things done to the best extent possible! We seek the benefits not only in how rewarding the outcome is, but also in our journey together.”
