Having Trouble Sleeping? Try Out These Apps

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

Finals are around the corner, the boss just asked for a few more hours, and expectations are being raised higher and higher. You know what tends to suffer in this picture? Your sleep! All too often, there’s this idea that it’s only okay to sleep when you’re dead. Well, this just in: it’s possible to do it all! School, friends, work, and yes, sleep. Whether you suffer with insomnia, you’re just trying to get your six to eight hours, or you simply want a nap; one of these apps can be just the solution you’ve been looking for.

1. Sleepytime

If you know your bedtime and simply want to know the best time to wake up; if you know when to wake up and you’re wondering when you should sleep; if you just want to sleep immediately and want to know the best time to wake up…this is the app for you. Upon opening the app, you simply choose the option that best fits you at the moment, and then let the app do the rest of the calculating.

2. Relax Melodies

If white noise and meditations are more up your alley, this is the app for you. It includes guided meditations to help you craft a more restful sleep. You get to choose between relaxing sounds, browse pictures of nature, or a melody giving you a first-class ticket down memory lane to when your mom would sing you your favorite lullaby to help you fall asleep.

3. Sleep Cycle

Want to know your sleep patterns? This app is for you. After putting in your wake-up time, the app will pick up on your movements, analyze your sounds and vibrations, and will even wake you up during your lightest phase of sleep! The data recorded indicates your sleep phases, your weekly trends and will even let you know if you snore.

4. Good Morning Alarm Clock

Interested in statistics? This app gathers all your sleep statistics and tracks your sleep debt and sleep quality. You can use in-app sounds or your personal playlist to wake up to. If your parents are too far to nag about how you’re not sleeping enough, no problem! This app will do the trick, and show you just how much – or how little – sleep you’re getting.

5. Recolour

Is your mind racing? Did counting sheep stop working for you two semesters ago? Do you love adult coloring books? Then this is the app for you. More than 1,000 images provided help you relax, rest your mind, and put you in a calm state of mind. Pick an image (don’t let the decision anxiety hinder you, you’ll sleep again tomorrow and get to choose another), channel your anxiety into your image, and relieve yourself of stress.
