Getting a proper night’s sleep can be quite tough for students, especially during virtual learning. Staring at a screen all day, coupled with overwhelming stress and anxiety about assignments and tests, can become a lot. It gets hard to maintain good sleep after a while, but sleep is so important! Getting a good night’s rest is essential for productivity and success for the following day. Being a student who has struggled with maintaining good sleep quality in the past, I’ve managed to gather some of the best sleep tips and tricks from not only myself, but from some friends and fellow students as well.

To start off, I think we need to address the importance of sleep consistency. I’ve always been a person with a fairly regular sleep schedule. Most of my friends and family will agree that I tend to go to bed and wake up earlier than most. I’ve kept my sleep schedule very consistent over the past couple of years because I find that it improves my sleep quality. When I first started to get into a routine by going to sleep and waking up at similar times, I found that my body got used to it. I would start to feel tired around the same time every night and wake up at the same time every day. I found that when I woke up in the morning, my body was refreshed and I was ready to get up and start working towards a productive day. There have been a few rare nights where I have accidently broken this habit, and I’ve always ended up with a less than fulfilling sleep. From my personal experience, maintaining a regular sleep schedule helped me out a lot and allowed me to start sleeping soundly on a nightly basis.

Another tip I recommend for a good night’s sleep is to avoid napping during the day. I used to be guilty of this and would nap quite often, but ever since I stopped, or at least minimized my time spent napping, I’ve found I sleep deeper and longer during the night. Napping during the day can trick your body into feeling awake at night, which can result in a poorer than usual sleep. Minimizing my nap time during the day is a habit that I have adopted that has significantly influenced my sleep quality for the better.

One last tip from one of my good friends is to listen to some Spotify channels before bed. Spotify has bedtime stories or relaxation modules that can help you fall into a quick and deep sleep. After I was recommended this, I tried it out and fell in love. You simply turn on the channel and listen and your mind and body instantly relax. Not only does this help you fall asleep, but ever since I’ve started listening to these channels before bed, I find I enjoy my sleep much more. I’m sure if you’re not a Spotify user there are sleep channels on other platforms like Apple Music or Amazon Music. I recommend trying this out if you’re someone who wants to improve their sleep quality but also fall asleep quicker. I’ve found that it works wonders!

Sleep is awesome and can help you with your physical and mental health so much. These are just some of the ways I’ve managed to strengthen my sleep quality, and I recommend them for anyone looking to do the same!
