Easy Ways to Get Exercise During the Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Getting exercise during the winter can be a drag due to bad weather, low temperatures, and lack of motivation. But, it doesn’t have to be too hard! Take a look at the following tips to stay in shape during the chilly season.

1) Look on YouTube for guided exercise videos.

Yoga, Zumba, Barre, Cardio and so many more videos are available for free, without a subscription! Take a look and make room in your apartment, dorm, or home to do some basic guided routines without having to brave the cold or invest in expensive equipment. POPSUGAR Fitness, Alo Yoga, and blogilates are some great channels to check out!

2) Use Shape, MarieClaire, and other magazine workouts to get ideas for how to switch up your routine, again, without having to leave your warm room!

A lot of these magazines give targeted workouts for your glutes, arms, and abs, so pick one that seems interesting to you and give it a try. Many are also avaible online and created by celebrity trainers!

3) Your basement.

For many dorms and apartment buildings, there are basement spaces available for you to use or rent out for exercise classes. Contact your RA, super, or building manager to see if there is a space for you!

4) Invest in a yoga mat.

To go along with guided videos online or simply your own flow, invest in a yoga mat for you to roll out in the comfort of your own space to do basic stretching or yoga according to your own schedule. With lots of fun colors and patterns to choose from, purchasing your own yoga mat will definitely get you excited to work out even when it’s freezing out.

5) Use Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and even Google.

Try looking on the explore page of your favorite social media handle to find guided videos by personal trainers, celebrities, and more. Lots of influencers are starting to post quick, at-home routines on Instagram.

We hope these tips and tricks make incorporating fitness into your daily winter routine a little bit easier and a whole lot more fun!
