12 Easy Exercises to Do Between Your Classes

If you find yourself having difficulty getting to Eppley, and you’re starting to feel guilty about your lack of gym time, the next best thing is figuring out the most ideal and practical workout regimen for your busy schedule. Don’t neglect your  health! Instead, try out these 12 quick and easy exercises that can be mixed and matched with others to create the ideal circuit for a quick and effective workout in between classes, when productivitiy is typically at an all time low.

 

  1. Lunges

  • Can be done on your way to classes or the as the walk from the stairs to your your dorm room
  • Use backpack as a weight
  • Step forward with one leg and lower hips to a bend of 90 degrees
  • Repeat 15x each leg
  1. Sit ups

  • Done in dorm
  • Lie on back
  • Use abs to lift shoulders off of floor until you are sitting all the way up to your knees
  • Repeat 25x

 

  1. Push ups

  • Done in dorm
  • Lie in plank position, toes and hands on floor
  • Keep body straight; butt down!
  • Lower body down by bending elbows to ground
  • Return into plank position
  • Repeat 10x
  1. Squats

  • Can be done either outside on way to class or in dorm
  • Stand straight up and keep back straight
  • Bend knees to 90 degrees
  • Return to standing position
  • Repeat 15x
  1. Plank (1 min)

  • Done in dorm
  • Lie with toes and hands on floor
  • Keep body aligned; butt down!
  • Hold position for 1 minute
  1. Textbook lifts

  • Done in dorm or classroom
  • Sit or stand straight up
  • Hold textbook(s) at chest level
  • Raise above head and lower back down to chest
  • Repeat 15x
  1. In chair dips

  • Done in classroom or dorm
  • Sit at edge of desk chair
  • Grab sides of chair; keep arms straight
  • Lower body down towards ground
  • Repeat 10x
  1. Textbook twist crunches

  • Done in dorm
  • Grab heaviest textbook(s)
  • Sit with legs 6 inches above ground
  • Sit up while twisting torso to touch textbook to the ground on each side of body
  • Repeat 15x
  1. Wall sits

  • Can be done in dorm, classroom, or even elevator
  • Great to do while studying for classes
  • Sit with back straight against wall
  • Bend knees to 90 degrees
  • Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute
  • Repeat 3 times
  1. Side Plank (1 min per side)

  • Done in dorm
  • Lie on right side and keep legs straight
  • With right arm, prop body up so body is off the ground
  • Rest left hand on hip
  • Hold 2 for 30 seconds or 1 for 60 seconds
  • Repeat on left side
  1. Push Up against wall

  • Can be done anywhere with a wall
  • Stand at a diagonal with upper body closest to the wall
  • Bend elbows and press palms of hands against wall
  • Push body off of wall
  • Repeat 20x
  1. Side crunches (1 min each)

  • Done in dorm
  • Lie on right side
  • Use abs to pull upper body towards legs
  • Repeat 30x
  • Switch to left side
