Body-Positivity hits Exeter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Some say that a wonder woman has hit the shores of England. She is interesting, fun and passionate about making a difference. She is starting campaigns, hitting the gym and having a balanced life in the process.

Who is this wonder woman? Her name is Harriet Iles. She is an Adelaide born traveller, blogger, and personal trainer. Her passion in life is people, she studies law and as if that wasn’t enough she has a beautiful blog on the side. (Seriously, this blog is the stuff of dreams!)

As on overweight child turned health enthusiast, she understands the importance of fitness, nutrition and a balanced lifestyle. She doesn’t preach from a high horse, but instead, we are lucky enough to have her on our shores for a year as she does her year abroad at our humble university. During her time here she is bringing body positivity to Exeter. She is a global ambassador for the body positivity movement founded in Australia. The movement was founded by Australia’s Taryn Brumfitt who wanted to promote the importance of embracing every(body) regardless of shape, muscular build, age, colour, ethnic origin and/ or physical ability.

Harriet is starting a brilliant campaign promoting body positivity in Exeter. It is called ‘Embrace’ and she is getting people to love themselves because embracing your body is not something that our society finds relatively easy to achieve. She is getting students to take photos in t-shirts saying ’embrace’ to show that they are embracing their body (How cute is that!). And she is spreading awareness by getting interviews from people on her website to show how everyone has different views on what a healthy body image means and how everyone has a different health and fitness journey.

This girl means business. You will shortly see her all over Instagram and campus sharing her passion for loving yourself and accepting all parts of yourself.  If you want to get involved with the campaign or answer her short questionnaire then please see her blog: http://harrietjanewilson.weebly.com/exeter-embraces

And if you just want to get motivated by someone who has achieved so much and is always trying to make a difference wherever she goes then also go read her blog. (In short, go read her blog!)

So Exeter let’s start embracing ourselves and our bodies!

Geography student who loves travelling, exploring, health, fitness, good food and nutrition and loving life as much as possible!
