Social distancing is hard. And as an extrovert and a bad texter, this isolation period has made it difficult to stay in touch with friends. This is especially difficult when considering the fact that you have left the college environment and the area where most of your friends live within a short distance. Staying at home makes the typical “going out activities” hard to do, so here are some ideas for bridging the gap in social distancing.

Cooking with Friends

This is a really fun thing to do, regardless of whether you can physically meet your friends or not. Set up a call time in which your friend and you decide to cook the same dish and prepare it to the best of your ability. This makes for a fun activity to do without having sit around. You also end up (possibly) getting a great meal out of it!

Make videos

Whether these are Tik Toks or your own personal home videos, creating and designing a video takes a lot of time. Think of a movie or TV show that you enjoy and try to make a parody video of it that you can enjoy later with your friends. These will definitely be things that you will treasure when the quarantine period finally comes to an end.

Streaming Party on Netflix

If you feel like you just want to lounge around and not do any active activity, a streaming party is the way to go. With this plugin, your friends and you can sit around and watch the same movie together as you normally would in a group setting. Pull out some snacks and enjoy a movie together.

Send games on your phone

If you don’t want to text your friends, you can just send them games. Sometimes, an ongoing game of pool can help alleviate boredom and stress and help you stay in touch with your friends without having to actually speak with them. You can also play Animal Crossing or other joint video games together in the comfort of your room.

Work out together

This is the time to get the body you want! Set a fitness schedule with your friends where you can follow workout videos or do the same fitness tasks together. This can help you stay close to your friends while also improving your general mood and happiness.

Social distancing may make life difficult, but there are many ways to bridge the gap between you and your friends. Try not to shut yourself out because of the increased distance and increase your effort to maintain the valuable friendships that you made in college. Quarantine doesn’t have to be a lonely thing.
