No matter where you lie on the scale of self-confidence, I’m sure that you are able to think of a time when you have felt good about yourself. Maybe you were all dolled up for prom or it was just a really good hair day, or maybe you looked in the mirror and you simply felt at peace with your reflection. It is all too easy for us to overlook these monumental moments, and choose to dwell on our insecurities instead. Consequently, we’re our harshest hater. But that can be fixed. It’s never too late to alter your thinking and appreciate what the looking glass gives you.
No matter how much my weight fluctuates or the pimples randomly appear, I am still me: same personality, same values, and the same spirit. Physically, your body is constantly changing—shedding skin, cleansing your insides, striving to maintain homeostasis—all for YOU to exist. In return, you should stop fighting yourself. Be good with you. Pay attention to how you treat yourself. Are you pinching your pudge? Calling yourself names? If it isn’t contributing to your well-being, then you are actually harming yourself. When your thoughts seem to be dragging you down, TURN THEM AROUND. Literally, go in the opposite direction and think of new and better things.
The same way we can pick out shortcomings, we are able to pick out strengths! Controlling your thoughts is half of the battle when it comes to self-confidence. Self-love is the best love. Once your perspective changes, your whole life changes too. Your value cannot be measured by a scale, counted in calories, or calculated by any inanimate object for that matter.
Try these tips as a gateway to a renewed outlook
1. BREATHE:
It seems as though when we’re really worked up, we forget about this essential step. A deep inhale and an even deeper exhale can make all of the difference in the world (also your bloodstream, brain, and lungs kind of need that oxygen).
2. Count 3 Great Things About Yourself:
I’m giving you permission to toot your own horn,.Go ahead, don’t be shy. It may kind of hard starting off, but it’s crucial to be specific about what you love about you!
3. Talk About It:
Your feelings are valid. If you got to the right individual then they will make you realize this too. Sometimes simply putting your thoughts into the atmosphere can help you realize things you didn’t know needed realizing.
4. Stretch It Out:
Once you get the blood in your limbs pumping then you will begin to feel more relaxed. This also gives you the opportunity to clear your mind and focus on loosening those muscles.
5. Watch Yourself Breathe:
Whether you have to go find a mirror to look in or you’re watcing your chest rise and fall, it’s all about the breathing. This time, you are paying close attention to how you breathe. Appreciating yourself and your body’s abilities are a must. We don’t always take adequate time to give thanks, so use this final step as the time to do so!
The key thing to remember through it all is that YOU are the captain of your ship. No one can take away from the fact that you carry around the traits and qualities that you do. In order to be the best you that you can possibly be, you have to take charge of everything within you telling you that you’re not capable, loved, worthy, beautiful, and overall AWESOME.
