For the past year, I have really come to love going to Barre class! I first started going to Barre casually once a week sophomore year at SHU (I’m now a second semester senior, yikes Scoob). However, At SHU, in the Bobby Valentine Center, classes are mainly half barre half pilates because there are no barres for the classes to use. Last year, I began doing it more regularly at SHU and started to notice results. Then, I decided to try an actual barre class with a real barre at my gym at home. However, I think the instructor definitely can impact your experience. I remember the first time I went to Barre at my gym at home I did not like it and was extremely intimidated. However, I knew that I loved it at school so much that I decided to try a different class on the schedule at home. Now, I go to about 3 instructors’ classes at home whenever I can and love it! Here are some of the benefits I personally have noticed from going:

Barre Works EVERYTHING

Most barre classes I have been to consist of segments of arms/shoulders, legs/booty/thigh work and abs. It’s a total body workout! It’s a great option to squeeze in all those areas in 30 mins to an hour (depending on how long the class you go to is scheduled to run for) if you don’t have a lot of time to do so. Whether it’s my shoulders being sore or it hurting to sit down the next day, I definitely feel the aftermath/burn when I take a barre class.

You Will Feel Like Your Inner Beyoncé

I’ve never really thought of myself as having a nice booty. Before I started going to Barre, I didn’t really even notice mine or think much of it. However, without sounding conceited, once I started going to Barre, I definitely started to notice it more! Barre has introduced me to exercises targeting areas of my body I would have never thought to work on before. If you’re looking to look to tone your booty and curves, definitely give it a try!

It Strengthens Your Stability

I definitely think that my balance has improved immensely since I started going to Barre. I can definitely stand on my tippy toes or only on one leg for much longer than I had before. Barre also has helped my posture as well. I am less like the sloth from Zootopia hanging around.

It Improves Your Focus

Barre definitely has mental benefits too. Barre is not a huge cardio workout that makes you soaking wet of sweat. It is based on tiny moments in targeted areas. You really have to focus on what you’re doing to get it right. It definitely teaches you to pay attention to detail and focus on one thing at a time.

I’m sure there are many other benefits to Barre besides the ones I just listed! If you’re looking to get any of these benefits or try something new in your fitness routine, I definitely recommended trying a Barre class!
