The KAM'S Man: Jimmy Martin11/11/2012 |
Her Campus: When did you start at KAM'S? Jimmy Martin: I started February of my Freshman year. HC: How have you been promoted at KAM'S throughout the years? JM: At KAM'S you start pretty low and you have to earn your stripes. I was a doorman for about two years, and a bar back for a year. From bar back I was promoted straight to manager. HC: When you first started, did you ever think you would be promoted to a manager position? JM: Well, I always had hopes and the thought in my mind that I could reach that position. HC: What advice would you give to aspiring bartenders and workers at KAM'S? JM: Well, usually try to be a cooler person. We take pride in the people we hire, and we like to have a good time. If anything, have a good work ethic. It’s a lot more fun than a normal job. |
The All-American: Donovonn Young10/6/2012 |
Donovonn Young, sophomore running back for UIUC Football, made his appearance on the team in the fall of 2011. A Texas native, Young has made a new name for himself in the Midwest and is a key player on the University of Illinois football team. After graduation, he plans to play football professionally, but, in the meantime, he focuses on schoolwork and contributing to Illinois Football. Her Campus: When did your love for football begin? Donovonn Young: I want to say I was born to be a football player. I mean I loved it since I was young. I mean I started playing when I was four, so I’ve been doing it for a while. HC: Is your family really into football, too? DY: My dad and I played at the same high school and the same position. He went on to college and got hurt, so he didn’t get to go as far. That’s one of the things that drives me when I play. HC: Does your family come to all your games? DY: Yes, they actually come to every game. They haven’t missed a game yet. HC: Has running back always been your position? DY: When I first started playing tackle football, I played center. I started playing running back when I was about eight or nine, and ever since then they put me in that position. HC: How did you make the choice to play for the University of Illinois? |
Look Good, Feel Good: Ellison Sunglasses8/2/2012 |
The Beginning: “The Big Picture,” in the words of Aristotle Loumis, CEO and Co-Founder of Ellison, “We want Ellison to be a model of ‘Good Business,’” and in his eyes good business is not what you find on Wall Street. “I[Aristotle] want to close the gap between providing a good quality product and helping a cause, without a large profit”. This business plan may seem skewed to some, in the sense that the typical success of a business depends on profit. Ellison defies this stereotype. |
CU Style Blog: Winter Trends - Edgy vs. Classic1/22/2012 |
Kinsey In the dead of Winter, when the cold has got a girl down, Stylistas like Kinsey use bright socks to spice up the campus. Not only does wearing bright socks with boots dress up a grungy look, they make wearing leggings as pants work. When buying, be sure to look for thick socks with strong elastic bands that will with-stand wear and tear, and keep your toes from freezing up! Top: NastyGal
At the close of every summer season, the average jane piles up her stack of shorts and lets them hibernate for the winter. Smart Stylistas like Allison keep their shorts on hand, and ready to play at any moment. Don't keep your shorts on lockdown this winter. Instead, pair them with sheer tights and compose a symphony of style that not only shows off your legs, but keeps them warm and toasty. |

CU Style Blog: Standout Stylistas - Eye-catching looks for Fall11/10/2011 |
As the seasons are changing, and the weather is only getting nippier, CU Stylistas are lost in a sea of sweatshirts and Ugg boots. But, not to fear, these four fashionistas gleamed like diamonds in the rough, and caught my eye with their glimmering sense of style. Maria Wieromiejczyk |

CU Style Blog: Scarf Surfing - From Online to On Campus10/25/2011 |
Being on the Illinois campus, us college stylistas are limited when it comes to finding variety in accessories. So, if you're anything like me, you're scrambling through the Internet trying to find the newest scarves for Fall, before the heavy winds blow in and it's too late. This week I found five UIUC Collegiettes with necks dripping in draped gold, and scoured my favorite shops on the World Wide Web to find scarves inspired by Champaign-Urbana style itself. Leah Guadagnoli: CharlotteRusse.com is notorious for low prices and basic pieces. I found a scarf in a color very similar to Leah's for a whopping $10, a deal any girl would have a tough time passing up. A simple elegant scarf flows symphonically with a contrasting coat and sheer tights. |
CU Style Blog: Rainy Day "Boot" Camp10/19/2011 |
Most collegiettes look out the window on the morning of a dreary downfall and feel discouraged, but a true CU Stylista jumps for joy! This week I found seven sassy women rocking Rainboots in style. Plan for an entire week of rainy days with guidance from these ladies on our campus who brace the puddles themselves. Lauren Colby: Start off a rainy week with a solid, lightweight jacket paired with standout rain boot to add a little pizzazz to a cloudy campus. Pair your coat with a patterned scarf to break down and personalize the outfit. A great way to stand out in a sea of umbrellas! |
CU Style Blog: The Long and Short of It10/10/2011 |
Hip huggin' daisy dukes have been an evolving staple in the street-style scene over the years, and the goal of short-shorts for women is to show a little skin and elongate the best part of the body: legs. Recently, a more classy and put together version of the classic "Short-Shorts" has been gracing the fashion scene, especially on the UIUC campus: High-waisted shorts. I found two fabulous fashionistas this week sporting hems above the hips, each with their own flair to make the trend their own. Jesse suggests a more casual, dressed down version, while Ashley portrays her shorts with an elegant twist.
CASUAL Jesse Goddard: Jesse utilizes layering in a way that many fashionistas have a hard time accomplishing right off the bat. The button-up shirt combined with the simple high-waisted denim shorts provides for an outfit that breaks down her body, and the illusion that her torso is short and her legs are longer, which is something desirable for a woman of her height. The rugged leather boots dress down the outfit, allowing it to be worn on an "everyday" type of basis (especially for keeping comfy in classes all day). She adds a light sweater to top off the final product, leaving her with an effortlessly casual spin on the high-waisted shorts trend.
