7 Unique Couples Costumes From Your Fave TV Shows

Halloween is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably scrambling to think of the best, most unique couples costume to both flex your fit and your S.O. at the party. If you’re looking for your basic, run-of-the-mill Danny and Sandy from Grease duo, firefighter and Dalmatian pair, or Hugh Hefner and Playboy Bunny couple costume, you’ve come to the wrong place. These unique couples costumes from TV are ones you and your boo can dress up as for Halloween, all inspired by fan-favorite characters.

From Apple TV’s smash-hit Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis all the way to PBS’ The Joy Of Painting starring artist Bob Ross, these characters and personas will for sure stand out, and maybe even earn you a prize for your costumes.

Need other inspiration for Halloween costume season? Try out a few Taylor Swift eras on for size and get ready for having a “big reputation” as the most fashionable at the Halloween party. Of course, there are so many pop culture moments to take inspo from this year, too. Barbie and Ken will definitely be a major couple costume this year, and we may even be seeing a few Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce combos, too. If you want to go against the grain, these TV-inspired couple costumes are definitely for you.

1. Jesse & Jane

Any Breaking Bad fans here? If you’re one of them, then you definitely know Jesse Pinkman and his infamous goth girlfriend, Jane. For Jesse, all you need to do to achieve this look is to hit your local thrift store and find some tacky zip-up hoodies that look like they’re from 2009 Hot Topic to layer and pair with some way-too-big jeans and a beanie.

For Jane, an all-black fit with an off-the-shoulder top and skinny jeans will suffice. Just be sure to pair it with some leather and studded jewelry, boots, a belt, or all of the above. Or, if you have the pieces for it, you can go for this iconic look from her first appearance in season three. It truly goes without saying that Jane’s style holds up well in 2023.

2. Tina & Jimmy Jr.

This one is definitely for those last-minute couples that just don’t “do” Halloween — but are huge fans of Bob’s Burgers. For Tina, all you need are some thick glasses, a navy skirt, and a light blue tee. For Jimmy Jr., all you need is a yellow tee, a navy vest (preferably one that color-matches perfectly with Tina’s skirt), and some black jeans or slacks. Funny, easy, and comfortable? Sign me up. Don’t forget to bust a move, too!

3. Keeley & Roy

Ted Lasso just aired its final season in the spring, and we are so not over it. However, we still “believe” in carrying on the show’s legacy by dressing up as these lovable Apple TV characters. The obvious couple choice is, of course, Keeley and Roy. You can grab a Roy Kent jersey online and rock a glamorous fur jacket and dress combo for Keeley. Other couples on TikTok have also gone as Ted Lasso and Coach Beard. Don’t forget your soccer–err–football.

4. Bob Ross & a Happy Tree

There are countless Bob Ross costumes online for all genders, but if you want to take a DIY route, all you need is a blue long-sleeved collared shirt, blue jeans, and a paintbrush. For the person assuming the “happy tree” role, you could wear all black and super glue some plastic vines and leaves in place at various points on your shirt, dress, or pants. Additionally, you could even be a paint canvas yourself by wearing a painting around your face or on your chest.

5. Diane & Bojack

BoJack Horseman stans, rise. For Diane, you need a white tee, blue jeans, glasses, and a navy green jacket. If you want to dye your hair blue, absolutely go for it, but it isn’t necessary. You can also achieve a great BoJack look through makeup alone, by adding pink to your nose and white to your forehead. Then, you can rock his Horsin’ Around sweater or his signature gray blazer look.

6. Marceline & Princess Bubblegum

How cute! Something cool about these Adventure Time characters is that, unlike many other cartoon characters, they don’t have a uniform outfit for the duration of the show. Princess Bubblegum can be achieved by wearing a monochrome-pink outfit (think: dainty and hyper-feminine, like circa 2010 Ariana Grande) paired with her signature crown that you can easily DIY. For Marceline, you can dress up in your best gothic attire, or you can browse through the many Amazon Marceline costume lists to find inspiration! There are also many Amazon products for Princess Bubblegum, too!

7. Nadja & Laszlo

The best kinds of vampires are super sexy and a little silly. FX’s What We Do In The Shadows is all about showing off hot and dumb vampires, and it is the perfect show to watch during the Halloween season, and year-round, TBH. The most iconic couple, Nadja and Laszlo, are great inspirations for your spooky costume consideration. For Nadja, all you need is a poofy black dress, and layer garments on top as much as much as you prefer. Rock some long black hair, red lipstick, and fangs.

Laszlo also dons head-to-toe black often with some frills. Don’t forget the black nail polish and big rings. Fans of the show will go absolutely BAT-ty over your costumes. Other WWDITS characters would also make great costumes including Guillermo, Nandor, Colin Robinson, and The Guide.

See any fictional pairs that pique your interest? Or do you just need to watch a bit more Netflix to actually get some of these? Either way, I hope this got your creative juices brewing!
