Lose the Freshman 15: Don’t Panic at Weigh-In

Today marks the last day of the first Lose the Freshman 15 DietBet game! I would say I can’t believe that four weeks have passed already, but for once, I can. It’s been long enough that I can feel a marked change in my attitude and body—the thing is, it just went by so quickly.

But let me get to the point: Let’s talk how the DietBet game went! I’ll tackle the most pressing question first…will I be cashing in? I have good news and bad news.

Let’s review. My starting weight for the game was 156 lbs, which meant I had to lose roughly 6.5 lbs in order to get part of the pot. Good news: My month was strong. Around last week, I stepped on the scale and saw 149.5 lbs! To save you the simple math, that means I passed my DietBet goal—but more than that, I can really tell the difference in my body.

Now time for the bad news. TMI alert, but I’m a girl cursed with weight that fluctuates around Shark Week—which happens to fall the same week as the final weigh in. I checked in this morning, and sure enough, the scale reflects my monthly bloat, bumping me up to 152 lbs. Simply put, it’s some bad luck and bad timing that my weight is a little above 4% in time for weigh in. We’ll see if it goes back down before the weigh-in deadline, but if not, I’m fine with that. Sure, I won’t be able to cash in, but there’s no denying that the motivation DietBet gave me has paid off in other ways. The scale might be a bit wonky for me, but the mirror sure doesn’t lie, and I’m looking great.

Besides—there’s always Round 2. Have you signed up yet?
