Bed Sex Is Boring, So Try These Couch Sex Positions Instead

When it comes to great sex, who needs a bed? While getting it on in the bedroom might be the most mainstream way to do it, there’s something to be said about spicing things up from time to time. And while the backseat of your car, or even your jacuzzi, might be great spots for a steamy sesh, couch sex is extremely underrated — at least in my opinion. Seriously, some couch sex positions feel even better than the tried-and-true bedroom go-tos.

Much like having sex on a twin bed, though, couch sex can require you and your partner to get a little creative. After all, not everyone has the luxury of a massive sectional (and if you do, then I’m happy for you). However, forcing yourself to try something new can be an amazing way to spice up your sex life — even if that means bending yourself into a pretzel from time to time. (I’m only half kidding.)

With all of that being said, let’s face the facts, OK? Beds are out — and couches are in. I do, in fact, make the rules. Whether you’re going for a quickie, feeling spicy with a one-night stand, or just looking to switch things up with your partner, here are five couch sex positions that will put your bedroom on the back burner from now on.

Seated cowgirl

This one is comfortable for all parties — can I get a “whoop whoop” for back support?! Starting this is simple — just have your partner sit on the couch with their feet on the ground. Then, get on top and straddle them, using the back of the couch for support. From there, have your partner penetrate you from below, or grind your sensitive spots together. It’s a classic for a reason.

Reverse scoop

If you’ve got a smaller, skinnier couch, the reverse scoop is for you. Laying on your side, face your partner, and get real close. From there, wrap your arms around each other and intertwine your legs in whatever way is comfortable for you. In this intimate position, you have the option for penetration, clitoral stimulation, or some good ‘ol fashioned grinding — which is always a win in my book.

Take a seat

Remember how I mentioned sectionals? If you’ve got an L-shaped couch, consider taking this position for a spin. First, have the partner that’s doing the penetrating seated on the long end of the couch with their legs straight out. (You can also do this on a “basic” couch with your partner’s back on the arm of the couch, but that can be a bit uncomfortable.) Then, have them penetrate you from below as you sit on top with your knees to your chest, and your feet planted on either side of your partner. For extra stability, have your partner wrap their arms around you for an intimate, and super hot, sesh.

Standing Doggy

Doggy-style is GOAT-ed for a reason, y’all. If done correctly, and with a good amount of communication, this position is one of the best when it comes to pleasure. For this variation, have the partner that’s doing the penetrating get behind you as you bend over the couch, using the back (or the arm) for support. For deeper penetration, arch your back to the best of your ability, and be sure to let your partner know if you need a break — deep penetration can be a lot.

The Pretzel

I wasn’t lying earlier when I mentioned the Pretzel, y’all. As intimidating as the name sounds, however, this position is actually pretty easy. Laying on your side, open your legs like a clamshell and have your partner position yourself between them. With your top leg wrapped around their torso, straighten your bottom leg as they penetrate you. If you have a smaller couch, though, bend your bottom leg instead of leaving it fully extended.

What may start out as a Netflix-and-chill type of night can certainly become a steamy hookup — especially if you find yourself on a couch. So, instead of taking the time to head to the bedroom, why not get it on the couch? Trust me when I say, you’ll be glad you did.
