My First Pure Barre Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Working out for me has been a struggle in the past. I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy it, but I found myself getting bored of doing the same old thing every time, whether that be running on a treadmill or doing the same moves over and over again with heavy weights. There was no excitement or change. Until I took my first Pure Barre class, that is!

Pure Barre is a studio here in Athens that “utilizes the ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements, which burn fat, sculpt muscles and create long, lean physiques.” Think of a dancer’s body: long beautiful legs, a strong core, and unimaginable flexibility. At Pure Barre, you can actually achieve all that, and the best thing is, you don’t even have to know how to dance!

After joining a fitness group here on campus by the name of CHAARG, I was able to attend my first class for free! And let me tell you, I was burning.

I think the most interesting thing that I experienced during the workout was how intense it was, despite the fact that the movements we were told to make were tiny. Less than an inch. Yes, you read that right. There wasn’t a very wide range of motion when doing the moves, so it felt more like endless holds with tiny pulses. Talk about burning.

The music was intense, the workout was fast paced, and I left the room dripping with sweat and all wobbly in the legs. To anyone that is interested in mixing up their workout regime, consider trying Pure Barre! For those of you that are Athens locals, your first class is only $15!

Happy sweating!
