When 2017 rolls around a new 118,700 square foot gym will be opened right off of Lake Merced blvd. According to the Mashouf Wellness homepage the “Mashouf Wellness Center will be an exciting, state-of-the-art…facility, supporting general well-being by providing recreation and wellness programs and activities for the SF State campus. The design intentionally reflects a multi-functionality of space to support “a little something for everyone”, providing recreation, wellness, and event space to support activities and programs appealing to our diverse student body.”
This all inclusive wellness center has been in the works since 2008 and has created quite a buzz on campus. While there is not much information about the new building we do know that the new gym will include an indoor swimming pool, track and climbing wall. It will be multi-storied with places to host classes, workout and compete in sporting events. A new field and outdoor area will also be constructed right next door. Funding for this massive project has been backed by the creator and owner of Bebe clothing, Manny Mashouf, and out of fee’s each student has been paying since 2010. There is no word of what’s to happen to the two gyms already located on campus or the old field that is directly across from where the new field is reportedly going.
