The idea of working out is something a lot of people dread. Trying to find a slot of time in their day to further exhaust themselves doesn’t sound like the ideal way to have fun.

While the idea of working out isn’t fun, you can make it fun and still be able to cater a workout to your needs. Working out is a great way to relieve any pent-up stress or anxiety you might have from work or school.

Some people enjoy the typical gym scene and that’s OK.

For the people who don’t enjoy that atmosphere, here are some ideas to get your body moving outside of the gym.

Walking

One of the best ways I am able to get a workout in is walking. I love walking around the college campus or the trail behind my apartment complex. Picking a new place to walk each time you go out changes the scenery and makes a boring day-to-day walk more enjoyable.

Along with changing your scenery while you walk, you can pick something to listen to. Whether it’s a podcast, music or even silence, what you are listening to can make a difference.

Listening to calm or slow music is a great way to just think about your feelings and clear your head. To me, this makes it not feel like a workout at all.

Not every walk needs to be a fast-paced, sweaty venture.

Yoga

Another great way to get yourself moving is yoga. Yoga mats are roughly $10 to $20 on Amazon and are simple to store away in a closet or under your bed until you are ready to use it.

You can just stretch to unwind before bed or you can pick out a YouTube video of a yoga mat workout. These videos range from slow yoga exercises to high intensity. No matter what workout mood you’re in, you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

Pilates

Pilates is a great way to workout. Pilates is more intense than yoga because it is more fast-paced and focuses more on improving flexibility and strength.

I have found that TikTok has great videos of creators sharing what they do and how they formulate workouts — they are super simple to follow.

Dancing around

Another fun way to work out is dancing. I know that might sound crazy and you might be telling yourself that you don’t know how to dance or that you can’t do this, but I promise you, you can.

You can do this in the comfort of your bedroom or wherever you feel the most comfortable.

Turning on some fun music, jumping and dancing around your bedroom or kitchen is an amazing way to get your body moving without the feeling of working out. Trust me, it will get your heart pumping.

While this might not be the most effective way to gain muscle or achieve any personal fitness goals, that’s OK. This is still a great way to get your body moving while still having fun.

Not every workout needs to be taken seriously.

No matter whether or not you choose to work out in a gym or at your house, just know that you’re doing a great job.

Take a deep breath and have fun.
