5 Important Steps in the Journey of Achieving Self-Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

1. Self-Care

The most important way to show yourself love is through self-care. You can take care of yourself emotionally and physically in so many ways- sufficient sleep, exercising, eating proper nutrients and healthy social interactions. All of these things are so important in feeling your best and showing your body and your mind that you love it daily.

2.Tell Yourself “I love you” Every Day

One thing that has been so important in my journey of self-love is remembering to say “I love you” to myself every day. When you wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and show yourself appreciation. After so much critique, stress and fault that we put on ourselves throughout the day, it is vital to let yourself know that you are loved.

3. Remember to Forgive Yourself

Mistakes are so common in our every day lives, but it is important to remember that we are human and that everyone makes mistakes. It is so easy to blame ourselves for things that go wrong throughout the day, but remembering that failures and mistakes often lead to greater life lessons are key in helping us to forgive ourselves.

4. Be Creative

In order to have a healthy mind, it is important to be creative- no matter what medium you choose to express your creativity through. At times, creativity can be stunted by daily monotonous activity. Don’t forget to express yourself and your ideas.

5. Put Yourself First

It is so easy to put other people’s wants and needs before your own. While this can be good at times, putting others before yourself every day can be exhausting on the mind and the spirit. Figure out what is important to you and remember to make it a priority, no matter what. It is essential to remember to prioritize things that do your body and mind good.
