Well, they work almost all of the major muscles of the butt, hips and thighs, and can be done in many ways with many forms of equipment. The main benefits include:

  • Toning the leg by strengthening the quadriceps, hamstrings and calves
  • Lifting the butt – squeeze your glutes at the top to really get an extra booty burn
  • Strengthen the core – who doesn’t want a six pack?
  • Increase joint flexibility of the ankles, hips, and lower back!
  • By adding in weights, it can turn into an upper body workout!
  • This exercise is a motion that your body uses often so helps with everyday life!
  • They are fun and exercise generally is super good for your mental wellbeing!

Hopefully you are now all sold on the fact that squats are an amazing and fun thing to add in! So how to do a good squat?

  1. Stand with your feet hip width apart
  2. Tighten and really pull in those abs!
  3. Imagine you are sitting on a chair and lower your body slowly
  4. Stop when your legs are parallel to the floor
  5. Then press down into your heals and slowly rise back up to  a standing position

Once you have the form down, try and do 3 sets of 8 reps and see how it feels. If at any point you get any lower back or knee pain though please stop and speak to a professional!

Once you are ready you can add in dumbbells and eventually a barbell into the squat for major booty growth!
