5 Tips to Keep you Warm This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

The sun has disappeared, the grey skies have taken over and the temperature has dropped. Winter has well and truly settled in to stay, and for those of you like me, you have now accepted the fact that you will be constantly cold for the next few weeks. Bring on the fluffy socks and oversized jumpers.

However, do not fret! Here are 5 tips that are sure to keep you nice and toasty, even when your housemates refuse to turn the heating on in the middle of December.

  1. Disposable Foot Warmers
  • A few weeks ago, my boyfriend came back from Homebase with multiple foot warmers for me, to help minimise the chance of frostbite on my toes this winter – and they are great! You remove the sticker and attach them to either the inside of your shoe or bottom of your sock, and they stay warm for up to 8 hours! The walk to campus will be that little bit easier with these little lifesavers.
  1. Microwavable Wheat Bags
  • An easy and efficient alternative to hot water bottles. Microwave wheat bags remove the hassle of boiling the kettle and awkwardly trying to pour scolding hot water into a tiny hole without burning yourself – plus you can get adorable little animal ones that will keep you warm whilst you cuddle them!
  1. Heated Blanket
  • My heated blanket is my absolute lifesaver when it comes to winter. Coming back from a freezing day of lectures is bliss once I get into bed and turn my blanket on. For anyone that suffers from backache, the heat from a heated blanket is a necessity too for helping relieve pain!
  1. Tumble Dryer Tip
  • For those of you that don’t have a heated blanket, this tip is for you. My housemate messaged me last week recommending that if you are really cold, shove your duvet into the tumble dryer for 10 minutes or so to warm it through, and transform your chilly bed into a warm, cosy nest.
  1. Holding a Hot Drink
  • This one seems pointless, but having a hot drink to hold can make a huge difference when it comes to warming up. The heat on your hands will keep your fingers warm, and drinking the hot drink will make you feel warmer too.

Hopefully at least one of these tips can help to make the upcoming chilly months slightly more bearable, and if not – make sure to go and sneak your heating on as soon as possible! I’m sure your housemates are just as cold as you, and will appreciate it!
