Some say being healthy is all about fitness, whilst others say it’s about what you eat. The notion of self care serves to remind us all that being healthy – no matter where you think you are on the ‘heathiness scale’ – isn’t always related to the way you look. It’s also about the way you feel, because the inside can be more important than the outside. So in honor of Self Care Week, here are 5 ways that you can take care of your whole self from top to toe.

1. Practice yoga or pilates.

Yoga and pilates can range from being super carb-burning forms of physical exertion, to seriously chilled out relaxation sessions. Either way, they can be amazing for calming your mind and stretching out all of the anxiety in your body. You could find some classes in your local area, or do it from the comfort of your own home through the magic of Youtube.

 2. Pet an animal.

I know it sounds silly, but studies have proven that animals have wonderful effects on our health and wellbeing. I personally find that shouting “PUPPY” and running towards an unsuspecting dog always helps me in times of crises.

3. Be selfish once in a while.

Whether this is in relation to your mind or your body, it’s good to allow yourself to self-indulge every now and again. Spend a bit more money than you probably should, do your hair and makeup more exciting than usual, and definitely eat that giant chocolate bar! Do whatever it takes to get that little rush of excitement amongst the mundane of your everyday routine.

4. Take a nap.

Sleep is so damn important, there’s no denying it. Catching up on your sleep or taking a nap when you feel like you need it can be such a good thing to do for yourself. If you’re running low on time, have a cup of coffee and then take a super quick twenty minute power nap to recharge your batteries.

5. Ask for help!

When you reach out to people, you’ll find out that there will be atleast one person always willing to lend a hand. You just need to take the first step and pluck up the courage. If you’ve been hiding your troubles from them particularly well then they won’t know that you’re feeling down, so try to open up and see where it takes you.
