Five Magical Weekend Getaways in the U.S. to Plan Over Winter Break

As a senior in college, I am very cognizant of the fact it is my final extended winter break, and I am hoping to make the most of it by taking a domestic (for me, the U.S.) weekend getaway vacation. Oftentimes, I find myself romanticizing international travels (for certainly good reason!); however, I sometimes overlook the glamour of a weekend getaway in the U.S. – which is suffused with culture, beautiful sites, history, and delicious restaurants and experiences in and of itself. Here are five places – which all offer their own magic – to consider adding to your itinerary.

1. Miami, Florida

For some necessary sunshine during the winter months, insert the culturally vibrant, oceanside, and fresh city of Miami. There are endless activities to do – day and night. And, so many delicious restaurants to choose from!

2. Vail, Colorado

A luxurious escape from the hustle and bustle of life. I had the chance to visit Vail last year and absolutely loved it! Walking through the Vail Village felt like a true snowglobe and there is something for everyone – whether you’re a skier or not! From shopping to dining to hiking to snow shoeing, I think Vail is the perfect place for a winter vacation.

3. Charleston, South Carolina

I visited Charleston, SC for a super fun girls’ weekend a couple years ago. While I visited in May, I think King Street and surrounding areas in Charleston would be incredibly festive over winter break, and certainly still warmer than College Hill! There are so many great boutiques and lots of history to explore.

4. Washington, D.C.

This city is so spectacular. I’ve been lucky enough to visit on numerous occasions but contend I have barely scratched the surface of museums, restaurants, historic sites, etc. Not only are the streets and residential neighborhoods charming but Georgetown is extremely proximate as well. There is truly endless entertainment to be had in D.C. and with the sparkle of the holiday season, it is all the more special.

5. San Diego, California

I must admit…the last time I properly visited San Diego was before full memory! All this to say, the bites and pieces I do recall were nothing short of warm and enjoyable. San Diego is a stunning, artistic, and natural city with lots of outdoor activities, gardens, and museums. It does also offer a downtown setting for shopping, dining, and drinks.
