How To Get Yourself To The Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Juggling classes, extracurriculars, work, exercise, and a social life can be difficult. For too many of us, the first thing to get cut from our busy days is going to the gym. However, a healthy lifestyle is so important and by continuing to exercise regularly, you will see many benefits to your physical and mental health.

One way to make sure you get to the gym is by sticking to a schedule. Take some time to think about your schedule and what would truly be feasible for you. If you know you’re not a morning person, don’t schedule runs for 7am, as you are just setting yourself up for failure. After making a weekly gym schedule, stick to it! Let your friends know you are committing to exercise regularly and ask them for some extra motivation.

Along with providing you with motivation, friends can also become your gym buddies. Going to the gym is so much easier when you’re planning to go with a friend. It’s also more difficult to back out than when you are going alone. Also, working out with friends is fun! You can push each other to become more fit and laugh at fitness failures along the way.

Another tip is to sign up for fun classes you will enjoy. If you’re not self-motivated or just a gym newbie, maybe an instructor is what you need. Check out the campus rec center or any local gyms. Personally, I’ve been dying to try Organic Yoga in Johnson City.

You can also motivate yourself to go to the gym by taking the time to create a kick-ass gym playlist. Spotify has a workout playlist for every mood you could possibly have.

To keep up the good behavior, make sure to reward yourself for sticking to a consistent gym schedule. Treat yourself to cute new workout clothes, sneakers, headbands, or whatever you want.

Just remember the Binghamton Her Campus squad is rooting for you! We’ll see you at the gym.
