7 Reasons I Work Out That Have Nothing To Do With How I Look

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Getting regular exercise is important for both your mental and physical health. I am lucky enough to have a gym membership, and I usually go around 5 times per week. I like to include a lot of variety in my workouts, so I’ll run on the treadmill one day, do squats and deadlifts one day, and focus on arms and upper body on other days. This helps ensure that I never get bored with my workouts and also don’t get injured by overworking parts of my body. I am motivated to go to the gym for a lot of reasons, and here are a few that really matter (and have nothing to do with body image):

  1. It gives me energy to start my day and be productive
  2. It helps me work up an appetite to eat my favorite foods
  3. It helps my mental health – I am less antsy/anxious and can focus better after a workout
  4. It helps me sleep better at night
  5. It makes me more motivated to get other things done
  6. It gives me a sense of accomplishment
  7. It gives me something fun to do (so I don’t get too bored over winter break)!
