7 Crazy Celebrity Diets You Won’t Believe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

We all want to look our best this summer, but at what cost? Here’s a list of some crazy celebrity diets to inspire all of us to rethink our pre-summer cleanses in favor of some cheese and drive-thru. You don’t have to tell me twice.

1. Beyoncé

No proper celebrity list could exclude Queen Bey and she’s made this one for the infamous #22daysvegan diet that Beyoncé and Jay-z showed off in their Instagram posts. This is a 22 day long meal plan that is plant based and organic, soy-free and gluten-free. Before this Beyonce tried out the Master Cleanse, an all-liquid diet of cayenne pepper, lemons, and grade B maple syrup nine times a day, during her filming of Dreamgirls in order to lose 20 pounds, now that’s serious commitment.

2. Lady Gaga

Tracy Anderson’s baby food diet, a plan that replaces your first two meals of the day with Gerber’s baby food, followed by a health-conscious dinner. Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Gwyneth Paltrow have all allegedly tried this diet. Apparently some of the upsides of this diet include saving time spent on meals, consuming safe and easy to digest food, and providing a balanced nutrition without high levels of fat and salt. Okay this all sounds well and great but when are we going to talk about how disgusting pureed beef and gravy for lunch sounds instead of, I don’t know, real food?

3. Madonna

Of the many diets this pop star has been tied to, the Air Diet is one that stands out. You heard that right- this diet relies on the concept of Breatharianism, a concept similar to fasting that is based on the idea that humans can rely on sunlight alone. Scientists and medical professionals have since had to assure the general public that this is generally considered pseudoscience and has resulted in severe dehydration and death. If it was possible for humans to survive off sunlight alone at least we can be sure that everyone in Phoenix would be set for life.

4. Ashton Kutcher (and Steve Jobs)

In another case of very method acting, Ashton Kutcher tried the Fruititarian diet that Steve Jobs was known for religiously following. In fact Jobs’ fascination with the lifestyle was reflected in his design for both his company’s name and logo. This diet requires that adherents follow a diet of up to 75% raw fruit, however even practicing Fruitarians warn people starting the diet not to jump in too fast in order to avoid nutritional imbalances. Unfortunately for Kutcher, he ended up in the hospital with an inflamed pancreas after only a month of following Jobs’ diet and has not returned to the diet since and honestly I can’t say I blame him.

5. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Despite the delightful photos of The Rock posing with food his diet is no joke. At 6ft 4in and 270-pounds it’s not easy for Johnson to maintain his namesake physique but he does it with a strict regime of workout sessions and diet plans. A regular day for The Rock includes, 5,165 calories, seven meals and 10 pounds of food a day. A whole day packed full of eating might sound like fun but with all his meals on a tight schedule Johnson has to wake up to eat his first meal at 4 am and workout immediately after.

6. Victoria Beckham

Another diet that a long list of celebrities including Jennifer Aniston and Kirsten Dunst have been tied to is the Alkaline Diet. Victoria Beckham was photographed carrying a copy of a cookbook on the Alkaline diet and since then has been open about her tea drinking habits. The Alkaline diet is based on optimizing your body’s natural PH balance by avoiding meat, dairy, sweets, caffeine, alcohol, artificial and processed foods, and consuming more fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, and seeds. Something else the diet encourages is drinking Alkaline Herbal Teas and Beckham herself has spoken often on her love of Pu-erh tea.

7. Chrissy Teigen

The gorgeous and hilarious model has been blunt about her hatred of diets in the past and as the author of her own cookbook it’s no surprise that she loves food just as much as the rest of us. Teigen keeps it real on her social media and is constantly posting drool-inducing pics of her food that make us all jealous of her life aside from the successful model thing. In a recent Elle interview, Teigen said, “I’m going to start my own Chrissy diet that’s like Paleo plus cheese. Plus late Saturday night drive-through.” And if that’s not something we can all get behind this summer I don’t know what is.
