This article series is all about getting into making delicious, healthy, and different smoothies! Each part focuses on one central aspect of the smoothie. This part is all about the non-green veggies to utilise in your smoothies! Make sure to read the first four parts of the series if you need some general infoadvice on the base, on the greens, and suggestions for the sweet!

Now, what vegetables could you try?

Carrots

Carrots are fantastic! Not only are they vitamin-rich and packed with plenty of fiber, they also give your smoothie that glowing pretty orange colour. Try combinations of ginger-carrot-orange or redcurrant-turmeric-carrot-banana. These smoothies make especially for the perfect autumn breakfast paired with porridge or a sandwich.

Beets

Don’t knock it till you try it! Try combining beetroot with your sweet smoothies to trick yourself into eating some extra veggies. They give depth to flavour (don’t overdo it though) and a beautiful, purple colour! Combine beets with berry-based smoothies and apple for a lovely flavour profile!

Squash

What about a pumpkin or a zucchini smoothie? They might sound weird but the squash family can surprise you! Pumpkin smoothies need some sweet ingredients, and (since pumpkin beverages are mostly part of autumn) I very much recommend going for a pumpkin spice type of drink during the autumn season. Cinnamon and banana compliment these types of smoothies very well. Zucchini can also be tossed into a green smoothie (OK, yes, it’s green, but still a weird one, right?) for some extra fiber.
