How To Maintain Your New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of the month where everyone looks back at the previous year and strives to make goals to accomplish in the upcoming year. Now, I can’t speak for everybody but I tend to keep New Year’s resolutions for the first two months and then it goes downhill from there. Here are some ways that you can maintain your goals for the duration of the year. 

Make A List 

A lot of times people tend to pick out multiple things that they want to change in the new year, and although it is great to try to improve yourself and grow from past experiences, it may be slightly overwhelming to change all at once. That’s why I think it’s important to make a small list of things you want to work on so you don’t overwhelm yourself and can easily check things off as you go.

Be Realistic 

It’s wonderful to have goals and dream big, but please don’t have unattainable goals because that will only dishearten you. For example, if you want to lose weight, then don’t have a goal of cutting out your favorite candy for the rest of the year. Instead, go slow and limit your sugar intake and that way you won’t binge when you’re hungry and will also be able to have some sugar when you want. 

Track Yourself 

Even if we make realistic goals, we still lose track of them because we get so absorbed into our daily lifestyle. That’s why I recommend tracking your progress every month to see how much of your goal you’ve accomplished. If you haven’t really stuck to your new year’s resolution then it might be time to reevaluate and come up with a new one!

Keep On Going 

It is completely normal to have setbacks and failures when trying to achieve a goal. Please don’t be discouraged, and consider it as a motivation to work even harder because you can do it! You can achieve the world if you put your mind to it. Reevaluate your strategies, consult your friends, talk to your family members or even do some research but don’t stop and give up because things didn’t necessarily go your way. As cliché as this sounds, trust the process.

Prioritize Yourself

People tend to forget that the biggest aspect of keeping your goal is choosing yourself. Don’t spend time worrying about toxic relationships or problems that you won’t even remember in five years. Focus on yourself and do things that would help you grow and improve not just personally, but within your career as well.

I absolutely love the idea of new year’s resolutions because they help a person focus on themselves and grow from their past experiences. However, it is hard to keep those goals because we tend to go back to our daily lifestyles as a force of habit. These are a couple of things I recommend everyone to do to maintain their goals so that they can be the best version of themselves!
