Thanksgiving Break might seem like a nice interruption from recent midterm season chaos, but it falls right before finals week. Even though the break is short (a measly two days), it can make for the perfect reset before finals. Whether you’re going home or staying on campus, here are a few ways to make the most of your short break.
actually rest (like, really)
As tempting as it seems to make plans, give yourself a break. This is essential, especially after midterms. Give yourself some downtime. Sleep in. Enjoy slow mornings. Turn on your favorite comfort show or movie. You aren’t being lazy, because it will give your mind a mental break from midterms and prepare you for finals week.
reconnect
Thanksgiving Break is one of the few times during the fall semester when we get to see family, especially if they live farther away. Spend some time with family and friends. Even a short coffee catch-up can make a great debrief.
declutter digitally
A cluttered computer equals a cluttered mind. Cleaning and organizing are a great way to prepare yourself for finals week. Delete old files and screenshots, close forgotten tabs, and remove old study materials. Having a clean and organized digital space can really do wonders.
self-care night
You deserve it. Take one evening and have a self-care night. Whether it’s watching a movie in your favorite comfy clothes or relaxing in a warm bath with a face mask, a small reset can make the biggest difference.
Thanksgiving Break may be short, but it can be the best time to reset before finals week arrives in full force. With a little downtime and quality time with loved ones, you’ll be in the right mindset to finish the semester strong.
