One thing a lot of people in school take for granted is personal time for yourself. To others it might not be a big thing, but it does have a huge impact on everything you do. Every day you accumulate a huge deal of stress may that be from working, a huge school load or other daily stressors. By not taking time for yourself, it can lead to unwanted mental health problems. It does not help that mental health priorities are stigmatized. I had learned this the hard way when I was a freshman, I was working 70-90Hrs a week and doing 5 classes had very little sleep and took no time to myself. Not even with sleep. I slept max 2 maybe 3 hours a day. I had burnt myself out halfway through that semester. To be honest I don’t know how I made it throughout, but it is something I’m adding to my Anti-Bucket list of things never to do again.

It has been proven that time to yourself is much needed. You need the time to relax, destress, gather your thoughts, and be yourself. Versus over working and over studying. For the purposes of studying a human mind can only stay focused for about 90ish or so minutes before requiring a break, if not you’re not really retaining or caring about what you’re looking at. If you’re overworked, you’re not going to be performing well, you will just feel a constant state of fatigue.

It is not selfish to take time for yourself, it’s something that you need to do. It’s something you should do often or (AS NEEDED). In today’s day and age, I wish this is something employers and schools would take more seriously.
