Back on the Right Track

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

School is back in session and you know what that means; late nights, time management, coffee, and staying healthy! It is so crucial for you to stay healthy when school starts. Now, I don’t know about you but I’m pretty good about eating and working out at the beginning of the semester.

Then after two weeks later that goes out the window! Here are some tips and tricks I’ve tried to help me stay motivated!

1. Have a dedicated time to work out!

Once you have a set time that works with your schedule, you will become acclimated. Having at least an hour to work out is beneficial and it’s best to do it in the mornings or afternoons. Working out in the evenings is understandable, but it is good to work out at least 2 hours before you go to sleep!

2. Get plenty of sleep!

Now, I know that is hard to ask when you’re a busy college student. We are constantly on the go and always studying. At least 6-7 hours of sleep is always recommended because sleep allows our body to rest as well as our minds. Our body needs rest or else we are more likely to get sick, and we don’t want that early in the semester!

3. Fruits and Veggies!

Eating vegetables is good for your body and mind. You get all those vitamins that you need plus they make your immune system even better! Substituting regular pasta for vegetable and whole wheat pasta is a great start. I personally like vegetable pasta better, because it is better for your body due to reduced carb intake. Be careful of certain fruits, such as strawberries and oranges because they are high in sugar and too much sugar isn’t good for you.

4. Don’t have too many sweets!

I am a sucker for dessert but too much of a good thing can be bad for you. If you want something sweet, eat fruits but if you want candy then eat half when you get it and save the other half for later or the next day. Desserts, if you can save it for a special occasion. If you are like me and you need to have a dessert, have it once a week!

5. Eat more chicken!

Chicken and turkey are good sources of protein. They are also easier for your stomach to digest. It is also less fatty and easier to cook with! There are also more recipes that you can make with chicken and turkey, like different casseroles and you can still make burgers!

6. Water is your best friend!

I will not say to cut out all sugary drinks, because well that is just not a reality in college. What we can do is drink lots of water! Water is our best friend because it hydrates our bodies and helps moisturize our skin! Water is literally our fountain of youth and helps our bodies with our digestive system.

There are more tips and tricks out there but these are ones that I have personally used now and in the past! Getting starting in the new year is hard but just remember to stay motivated and nothing is done overnight!

I am a fun loving, nerdy, chill, cool girl. I love being a comic book nerd and love to talk about anything and everything. If you want to play video games or even board games I am your girl. I love playing multiplayer games as well as Twister!!! I have a very corky fashion style and well I love it!! I am just a girl that knows what she wants and will try to get there.
