The Stages of Your New Year’s Resolution, as Told by Amy Schumer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

It’s a new year, which inevitably means we have all set our New Year’s resolutions and are trying our best to stick to them. It’s never an easy task, and there’s no one better than the amazing Amy Schumer to demonstrate the process of the New Year’s resolution.

Stage 1: New Year, New You
You begin the year with a fresh face and ready for change.

Stage 2: Feelin’ Yo’self
In the first few days of the year, you are sticking to your goals and feeling great. You’re proud of yourself for staying so strong.

Stage 3: Pride
Congratulations! You’ve made it a week. I’m sure you never thought you would make it this far. When someone asks you if you’ve kept up with your resolution so far, you can unequivocally confirm that you have.

Stage 4: Reverting to Old Ways
You may have dipped your toes into an old habit. Some may call it cheating, but it doesn’t count if it was only a little, right?

Stage 5: Denial
You’ve hit some small bumps in the road. You tell yourself these are minor mishaps, but you’re still doing great with your resolution, and no one can tell you otherwise.

Stage 6: Anger
A few weeks in, you are sick of trying to force yourself into an unnatural habit.

Stage 7: Acceptance
You’ve come to realize the truth — that your resolution simply will not pan out this year. You also come to realize that you don’t want a new you, because the old you is awesome.

Don’t get me wrong, as strong young women we are all capable of implementing positive changes in our lives. But try not to buy into the concept of “new year, new me.” Instead, think of small changes you can make that will enhance the already wonderful you from 2015.
