Every sunday I wake up, make my bed, brush my teeth, wash my face, do my skincare, change, get breakfast, and write in my journal. Like clockwork. At least for me, Sunday is also the day I walk to church with my roommate. This routine has been the same for the past year with a couple hiccups, however, it has changed how I start my week, for the better.

My first step to starting a routine, no matter how complex or simple, is giving yourself some ground rules. However, if rotting in bed all day is what makes you happy, do it! Make the most out of your ideal sunday. These tips are for those that have nothing to do but want to feel productive. (My type A gals) that do not feel joy when doing nothing.

Now to start things off, these are some rules for my Sunday morning, “wake up at 9:30 the latest, and making sure my skincare + brushing my teeth only takes 15 minutes out of the morning”. Making these rules untransferable allows me to be awake and ready for the day by 10:15 the latest. Despite these being my morning rules, they do not have to be yours. These are some rule ideas that can be applied to your routine!

  • Wake up at [blank hour]
  • Make your bed
  • Shower first thing in the morning
  • Go for a walk/do a workout class/move your body before [blank hour]
  • Read a chapter of a book before getting out of bed
  • Take vitamins as soon as you brush your teeth

Although these seem unreasonable to do on a day that is designed for relaxation, it can get you motivated for the week ahead as it makes sure you feel a sense of accomplishment. As opposed to having a tired and lazy Monday morning.

Something that also helps is doing what you love! Sunday gives just enough time, not just for the morning but the day ahead. In order for me to prepare for the week I go to church and work on my crafts. These are two things that will always put a smile on my face and encourage me to be my best self. Currently, my crafts consist of learning how to crochet and occasionally drawing when I get a spur of creativity.

When working on my hobbies, I feel productive without getting bored or annoyed with what i’m doing. I make sure I work on the creative hobbies to avoid fatigue or feeling like I’m always working on homework. Not in the sense that it is a real assignment, but more so the feeling of it.

If you are not a hobby girl, that’s okay! There are so many others things you can implement into Sunday that are not creative, but are still productive.

One thing I will always suggest is having a reset day, along with self care. This means wash your clothes, sheets, wipe down your desk, vacuum, and organize your space. Some may find this boring but it allows Sunday to be a designated cleaning day, which will start the week clean and chore free!

So whether you are a creative gal or not, Sunday can be a helpful day that gives your week a fresh start. By implementing some rules and habits, we can avoid the dread that comes with the usual Monday morning. Sunday is my favorite day if you couldn’t tell, and I hope it’s yours now too!

Hi everyone!!
My Name is Hannah-Lilly and I am currently a 2nd year at University of California Davis. I am double majoring in Communications and Spanish. Coming from a tiny highschool with a graduating class of 48 students I learned to be authentically myself even in restrictive environments. In this restrictive environment I learned the importance of prioritizing bonds with my friends and professors which later evoked my love of writing and expressing my opinion as an outlet.

I grew up in Los Angeles, California which never failed to share the beautiful and terrifying juxtapositions of life. Because of these diverse environments I quickly realized life can change in an instant. These realizations have made me appreciate everyday even more and focus on the beauty all around me. This beauty includes society, nature, culture and art.

Apart from my school life however I have always been an opinionated person budding my nose where it doesn't belong. Constantly I overwhelm my friends with observations that later become fully fleshed out writings. I am no stranger to writing think-pieces in my diary that are derived from movies I'm in love with to personal essays analyzing how my experiences have changed me for the better. I love reflecting on all things nitty gritty and hope you follow me along for the journey. -xoxo Hannah-Lilly
