Like so many of you right now, my days mostly consist of sitting at a chair staring at a computer screen for hours on end. With that being said, I am certainly not moving my body as much as I would like to. Yes, I still work out just about every morning, but throughout the rest of my day I remain relatively sedentary. So, to get both you and me moving more each day, I have come up with a few quick and easy exercises that can be done right behind your desk to get us moving in between long periods of hunching our bodies over a computer screen.
Stretch
Start your movement out slow and simple, get up and stretch.Reach your arms above you head, bend down and touch your toes, or even break into a split if you have been blessed with the gift of flexibility. Do something to awaken your stiff muscles just a little bit.
Run in Place
Sure, this may sound silly, but it is a great way to get your heart rate up a little bit. Set a timer and run in place for at least one whole minute, throw some high knees in there if you’re feeling brave in that moment.
Jumping Jacks
Throw it back to your elementary school PE days and put this timeless exercise to work. Do some jumping jacks for a minute or two to get you all fired up for your next Zoom class or meeting.
Crunches
Get on the floor, lie on your back, and give those abs a quick little work out. See how many you can do within the time it takes to listen to your favorite song, with a few breaks here and there.
Dance it Out
Keep that favorite song of yours on repeat and bust a move to get a few minutes of fun cardio in. Dancing is a much bigger work out than many often realize… give it a shot.
Push Ups
Modified or not, it does not matter, take a few minutes to give those arms a quick pump.
Take a Quick Walk
Whether in your house by going up and down the hallway a few times, or stepping outside and circling your house. Take a walk and let your mind clear for a second two to refocus and keep you going strong for the rest of your day.
Exercise looks different for everybody, the main thing is to keep moving whether you do one of the above suggested exercises or come up with your own, get that body moving. It will help you in more ways than one.
