WyHOMEing Interests & Involvement on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

INTERESTS & INVOLVEMENT

240 Organizations and Counting

The University of Wyoming Campus Activities Center houses a wide variety of student led organizations that appeal to several types of interests. Through UW’s Collegiate Link system, students can log on and stay up to date with all events happening on campus and even use a custom filtering system based on criteria of clubs that students might be interested in.

Entertainment at Altitude

Laramie lies just two hours north of Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Denver music scene which not only means a stellar concert experience is just a short drive away, but some seriously talented musicians have to go through Laramie to get to Red Rocks. Students are able to see artists varying from comedy to bluegrass concerts. 7220 Entertainment, which is also housed in the Campus Activities Center is responsible for the planning and booking of artists such as X Ambassadors, Adam Devine, Trampled by Turtles, Jim Gaffigan, and Brett Eldredge among hundreds of other artists that have also taken the stage on campus.

ALL ABOUT WYOMING’S STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

There are numerous ways to get involved on campus; 263 to be exact. With that many clubs on campus, there has to be at least one that matches your interests. The best part of the organizations on campus is that you can find all of them on Collegiate Link. Each organization has a brief summary, and a main contact to reach out to about getting involved.

Check out the updated list of RSO’s at this link in order to start getting involved.

STARTING A NEW ORGANIZATION ON CAMPUS:

Beginning your own organization is actually a simple process. In fact, last year 43 new organizations were introduced to our campus. All you truly need to start your own RSO is an idea and a total of seven people who are on board with it. From there, be sure to visit UWyo’s RSO page to find your application.

ARE THE ARTS (E.G. THEATRE, DANCE, ETC.) POPULAR?

The Arts are something usually taken very seriously around campus. The Buchanan Center of Performing Arts recently underwent a BEAUTIFUL renovation. This is definitely a building on campus to be enjoyed and admired.

Students are also required to take Intro. To Theatre (THEA 1000). In this course, Professor William Missouri Downs, requires each of his students to attend at least one play and take an exam over it. His passion for the arts will make you enjoy his class, and give you a different perspective on life.

Abbey is a senior at the University of Wyoming and is currently majoring in Journalism. She couldn't imagine a world without Jesus, coffee, The 1975, Twitter or her family. You'll usually find her at a concert or cafe somewhere, which is where she spends majority of her free-time. Talking to band members after their shows is a hobby, along with thrifting & indulging in all aspects of pop culture. After college, she plans to spend more time at concerts, getting paid to write about music and bands.
