It’s unfortunately that time of the semester where we start getting up five minutes before our 8 a.m.s, begin to wear leggings instead of jeans everyday, and laugh at the thought of going to the gym: it’s the mid-semester slump. Now I know it’s hard, and the thought of having to take one more exam might make you go insane, but instead of giving up and starting that application to the nearest fast food restaurant, here are 8 ways to get over this mid-semester drought!

1. Have a spa night

What’s better than a night with the girls? Get out your favorite face mask, like Freeman’s Feeling Rejuvenating Cucumber and Pink Salt Clay mask, and put on your favorite show. Not only will your skin feel amazing, but so will you after that relaxing night in.

2. Go on a shopping trip

I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m stressing I always am in the mood for a shopping trip. One place that is always a go to for me is Aeropostale. One clothing piece to try is their absolutely anything from their denim line. Not only are they affordable, but they’re also insanely cute and comfortable.

3. Change your look

Doing my makeup or doing my hair is one of the most relaxing activities for me. The only thing you need to worry about in that moment is not getting lipstick on your teeth and making sure you don’t burn your hair off. For hair products, Bed Head by TIGI has some of the best! Not only do they have a diverse set of products for nearly every hair type, but their products are also perfect for our college student budget.

4. Pretend it’s Summer

Fake it ’til you make it is what they say, so why not pretend you went on a killer vacation, and get your self tan on! L’Oreal Paris makes numerous self-tanning products that even beginners could figure it. One product to try is their Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes. Not only is this product easy to use, but it’s also perfect for someone in a rush because color develops in just 2-4 hours.

5. Try something new

One reason the mid-semester can be so miserable is because there’s so much going in, and not enough time in the day for it all. Getting a planner, or trying a new planning technique could be the solution for you! Erin Condren has highly popular planners, that are so aesthetically-pleasing, you just have to buy them. Whether you’re a college student, girl boss or social media guru, there is definitely an Erin Condren planner for you.

6. Do some Fall cleaning

Sometimes the best solution to getting out of a slump is as simple as taking a day to clean everything. Whether it’s your dorm room, apartment, or toiletries (including your toothbrush). The steripod clips easily attach to your toothbrush, ensuring that there are absolutely no germs getting into it. Not only does it protect your toothbrush from all of those flu season germs, but it also keeps it fresh for up to 3 months!

7. Have a treat

Halloween is right around the corner, so why not treat yourself to something sweet and delicious. HI-CHEWs are a tasty gummy candy that is made with real fruit flavor. Some of the flavors they have are Grape, Cherry, Banana, Strawberry, and Mango. These sweet treats are cholesterol free, gluten free and have 0g trans fat. So even though you’re not going to the gym, you won’t have to feel too bad eating a handful of these.

8. Prepare your skin for Winter

It’s that time of the year where dry skin is an unfortunate trend. In order, to solve this issue you need to hydrate like you’ve never hydrated before. One way to do that is with Spindrift’s Sparkling Water. This is America’s first and only sparkling water made with real squeezed fruit! It comes in numerous flavors that are delicious, and can be found at your local Target, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods.

So whether it’s curling your hair, or drinking some sparkling water, there’s an option for everyone to get rid of this mid-semester drought and treat themselves! Planning on trying one of these tips? Make sure to tweet us at @UConnHC!
