5 Unique New Year’s Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

The start of the new year is upon us. Well, the new year is in full swing now. However, it’s still not too late to make your New Year’s resolutions. I’m fully aware that New Year’s resolutions are a silly concept. Why wait until the new year to get back on track, right? But with that being said, I still make resolutions every year. I mean, why not give yourself the opportunity to make better choices, and live a fulfilled life. This year I decided to challenge myself by coming up with five unique resolutions that I have never done before. We all heard of the resolutions to eat healthily and exercise. Been there done that failed that. As for these resolutions, I’m doing pretty well to follow through so far. Without any further information in this very long intro, here’s my list.

Read Before Bed

Typically I wind down for the night with a  Netflix show. I will have already done reading for school that day, and the thought of reading another book seems like too much effort. However, this past year I started keeping a list of book recommendations from friends. My goal is to get through the list by the end of the year. I’m currently reading Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered. There is something about reading before bed that seems to put me to sleep.

8 am Wake Up Call

People say your circadian rhythm should go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. I’m testing out that method by waking up as if I have a 9:30 am class every morning. In reality, I only have 9:30 classes twice a week. I know I have time to go to the gym or do a last-minute school assignment before starting my day.

Asleep by Midnight

This is pretty self-explanatory. If I want 8 hours of sleep, then I need to be going to bed by midnight.

Meal Prepping

As a busy college student, I don’t have time to be cooking for hours on end each day. This is why meal prepping is going to be a lifesaver this year. I am going to be trying out meal prepping for the week on Sundays. Some of my favorite meal prep ideas include chia seed pudding, overnight oats, hard-boiled eggs, and vegetables.

Prioritize Me

To end off, it’s essential to hang out with friends and contribute to society as a generous and empathetic individual. However, not at the stake of your wellbeing and happiness. FOMO was so last year. If I want to spend a night in, then, I will.
