That One Time I did the Kayla Itsines’ Workout…

I need to start off by saying I haven’t worked out in about two weeks. With that being said, it’s really tough going from not working out to doing a week seven Kayla workout. 

For those of you like me who aren’t too familiar with the Kayla Itsines workout, here is some information on it. The program is 12 weeks long and each week and day involves something different. You are expected to do resistance training three times a week and low intensity cardio three times a week and stretching once a week. Once you reach week nine, you start the high intensity workouts a couple times a week. Seems like kinda a lot, right? Well here’s where the catch comes in. These workouts are only 28 minutes. You are probably wondering how you are getting a complete workout in such a short time. This is how. There are two circuits for the grouped workout and each circuit is seven minutes. You do each circuit twice which equals out to 28 minutes. Give it your all for these 28 minutes and you will feel the burn. 

Feeling like it won’t be difficult for you? Well that’s what I thought. Here is how my experience went the one time I tried the Kayla workout. 

I texted my friend the other day and asked her if she wanted to go on a run with me. Little did I know, she had something else in mind. She told me we were gonna do a 30 minute workout at the gym so I got really excited. I was thinking, 30 minutes… that’s nothing! I love to workout and stay active so even a short one sound great to me. Oh but was I wrong.

We grabbed our weights and started the clock. At first it was going great. I felt no pain and thought this it was going to be a piece of cake. You know that moment during your workout when you ask how much time is left and you get an answer you really didn’t expect to hear? That’s how I felt during this whole workout. I’d ask how much time left and she would say five minutes and I could instantly feel the burn more. I was surprisingly more motivated to finish the workouts because I was getting frustrated at the fact that they were so hard for me! The great part about these workouts is that you can substitute and improvise if needed. For instance, one of the circuits we were doing required a jump rope and we didn’t have access to one so we ran around the track instead. 

After one complete circuit, I looked like Blake Lively in the middle of the ocean screaming for help. Except I was in an ocean of my own sweat.

Overall, it was a great experience. I had a lot of fun and my friend and I got some great laughs out of it. I might not be able to feel my legs right now but I definitely felt accomplished after the workout. If you are looking for a way to incorporate exercise in your days but feel like you don’t have enough time, check this program out. Workout programs like this are great because they give you a step-by-step on how to do the workout too. Now get off your phone, laptop or whatever device you are on and get to the gym!
