How to Keep Your S*** Together in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Let’s be real. No one really knows how to keep their s*** together in college. Here’s some tips to at least pretend like you’ve got things under control.

Keep a Weekly Planner and Make To-Do Lists

The easiest way to stay organized is by keeping a planner. Write in all your assignments, exams, appointments and important dates, so you don’t forget anything ever again. Include a daily to-do list so you can remember everything you need to get done by the end of the day. Plus–being able to scratch off your tasks as you go is a very fulfilling feeling.

Do Your Best Not to Skip Class

As tempting as it may be, skipping class will only cause more stress and anxiety. If you do choose to skip class, plan ahead of time. Ask a classmate if they’d be willing to send you their notes and catch you up on what you missed. There’s nothing worse than missing an important day of class and not knowing what the hell is going on when you go back.

Take Breaks

The most important thing you can do for yourself (so your brain doesn’t explode) is take a break! Take a step back from whatever your working on and make time to eat, watch Netflix, hangout with friends or literally do nothing.

Workout Your Stress (Literally)

Working out is a great outlet to let go of your stress and anxiety. It’s beneficial for your health and it’ll make you feel less guilty about eating pizza for dinner…again.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting a good night sleep is key to having a productive day. As much as all students procrastinate and wait until the last minute to do their homework, all-nighters are horrible for your health and it messes up your sleep routine. Really aim to make sleep a priority!

Don’t Take On Too Much at Once

Find a balance between schoolwork, clubs, work and other activities. It’s okay to say “no” if something is getting in the way of your education and you already have too much on your plate.

Do What’s Best For You

Most importantly, do what’s best for you. College is tough! Don’t feel pressured to go out every night or have to participate in every event on campus. Do what’s going to make you feel the most productive, relaxed and stress-free!
