You know all those articles that tell you the way to get through college is to “relax” and “enjoy the experience?” Those friends who don’t understand working three jobs on top of going to class, and say “You’re only young once! Enjoy college!” That’s all bullsh*t, and honestly unless you are in a really great financial position is really unrealistic. So this is for all the people who work, intern, and go to school full time on top of this. We are stressed, we are anxious, but we are putting our all into our dreams and that is what makes us world-shakers.
1. Stop Feeling Guilty
If you want to put down your essay for an hour to do a face mask, do it. If you need to take a nap, take one. It can be so hard when it feels like there’s no time, but guilt and stress eat up our time a lot. Email your professor and say your essay may be an hour late, tell your internship you need to leave early one day, and don’t feel guilty.
2. Don’t Listen To THOSE Friends
You know that friend who always goes “Oh my god you just need to like chill out a bit!” but also doesn’t offer any help with anything? Yeah, don’t listen to that friend. Instead listen to the friend who says “Once you finish that paper come over, I have wine and pizza.” Or the friend who goes “Let’s study together, we’ll help each other.” Those are the friends who get it and always will get it, because while the “chill out” friend is fun, they don’t really get it.
3. Ask For Damn Help
Asking for help is hard, and scary. And when you’re carrying a million responsibilities it can make you feel like a failure, but it’s not. It’s okay to tell your boss or professor that you need help, it’s okay to go to tutors, and it’s okay to cry to your friends and family because you’re stressed and drowning in work. Ask for help, if you don’t you will have such a harder time finishing college.
So fly my stressed out dreamers, fly and fight your way to that degree.
