Get Involved with…Equestrian

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

All of this week, we’re going to be sharing experiences of University of Nottingham students in various sports societies. We hope this will encourage you to #GetInvolvedAtUoN !

Izzy Walker may be a member of Her Campus Nottingham but she also finds the time to be part of equestrian society! Today she shares her involvement with this exciting sport!

When did you start your sport?

I have been riding competitively since I was young so was very pleased when I found that Nottingham offered it as a sport as not many universities do. I joined the Equestrian club in first year and I am now looking forward to what the club has to offer this year!

Why do you like it?

I enjoy it as it gives me a break in between academic work and lectures to focus on something completely different. It’s also a great way to meet new people who share common interests as the club also has weekly socials.

Have you been involved in any competitions?

I was involved in a few home competitions last year, including a Christmas themed one, which were great fun and not too serious. They’re also a good opportunity to put what you’ve been taught in the weekly lessons to the test.

What is the best part of the society?

I think the best part of the society is that it is very diverse as it offers many different areas within the sport, e.g. Horseball which people may have not tried before so you can learn new skills. It also does a lot of charity work and fundraising for the RDA which positively impacts the community.

What would you say to people wanting to get involved?

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t had any previous experience as the club offers lessons from complete beginner level to advanced level, so it’s a great opportunity to learn a sport that you’ve never done before!

I'm a third year English student at University of Nottingham and when I'm not working or writing, I'm probably watching a Disney movie or listening to one of their soundtracks! I'm a Campus Correspondent for HC Nottingham and generally write about food, travel, and the food I've experienced on my travels!
