In a society that has built unobtainable standards for men and women, it’s crucial to practice body positivity. Nobody is perfect. People don’t need to strive to meet society’s idea of perfection. Instead, strive for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Being comfortable in your own skin leads to confidence, which invites success. And it’s important to understand that reading about it won’t change anything. Practicing body positivity is a commitment – it’s a goal – that takes practice.

So here are some tips:

  • Stay away from the negative thoughts in your head. This might be the most necessary but hardest step to a positive body image.
  • Make a list of things you like about yourself. They don’t have to be physical. Put the list somewhere that you see often.
  • Treat yourself. There is a lot of pressure on students, so do something nice for yourself every once in a while!
  • Be surrounded by positive people. Supportive, accepting people that will make you feel good about yourself.
  • Every time you wake up, look in the mirror and list at least three positive things you see.
  • Don’t judge others. Instead of body shaming, lift others up. Spread the positivity that you also want to build for yourself.

There will always be a standard of perfection in society, or negative people that tell you that you aren’t good enough. But it is so, so necessary to understand that this isn’t true. You are always good enough. Confidence is beauty. Make it a priority to build yours.
