“Así es la vida, sí

Yeah, that’s just life, baby

Yeah, love came around and it knocked me down

But I’m back on my feet”

– Bam Bam by Camilla Cabello

Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things someone can do. It’s a parting of the heart, the disentanglement of lives, and the letting go of what once was. It’s painful and lonely, and as if your mind is mocking you, you replay every happy moment you have together. Everything feels a little cloudy, less brighter than normal. I remember trying to keep myself distracted so I wouldn’t feel the hurt, but despite all my efforts, it seemed to slip through the cracks of the crudely made wall I built around my heart.

At the time things blew up in my face during my last relationship, I came across the song Bam Bam, and it gave me a whole new perspective of our breakup. The song describes how different people in life become after they part, how fast things change, but it then goes on to tell you that it’s okay because that’s what life is about. Life is full of ups and downs, rights and wrongs, but every instance is a moment, and every moment creates a new part of ourselves.

Yes, love is hard, but we can get back on our feet. Through it all, we learn what we need, what we don’t like, and what will make us happy in the future. So, I urge everyone to not take heartbreak as a roadblock but as a reflective experience to learn more about yourself. Work on yourself, and never lessen your needs for anyone. Don’t settle, because you deserve the world.

Yes, it hurts right now, but just hold on. Time will heal, and through it, you will learn so much about yourself and your happiness. It’s okay to be in pain, but just know that what you’re feeling will pass. Just remember: even if love knocks you down, you will always get back on your feet; it’s just a part of life.
