Screen time: How and why to decrease it this summer

Why does unplugging from your cellular devices matter? Well, for one, constant use of your phone can lead to extreme mental clutter. This makes it a lot harder to stay in the present and to enjoy all that the current moments life has to give us. Dopamine overload can make simple things, such as nature or hobbies, feel boring until you truly take a step back from the constant habit of screen time.

Being offline significantly improves your mood, focus, creativity and memory; those are ALL wins. Also, do you ever wonder why summer feels so short sometimes? Take a step away from your phone this summer to stay present, mindful and create deeper and genuine connections without the extra distractions.

Spend time in nature

Walks, hikes, sunsets, stars, picnics, swimming, gardening, biking, exploring – you name it. Do these with intention and you’ll feel a different sense of peace.

Get creative

Journal, draw, paint, read (physical books), cook, bake, crochet, dance, sing, scrapbook, write and so much more. The world is your oyster!

Channel self growth

Set personal goals for yourself and figure out how you will follow through with them. Meditate, or sit in silence for a bit each day. Take yourself on solo dates and reflect on your life with no to little distractions. Create a routine for yourself, one that does not revolve around screens.

Social connection

Hang out with friends and try to use your phone as little as possible. Host a game night, have some deep convos, cook meals and explore. There is so much more in life to see than what is on your screen.

Try not to go on your phone when you don’t NEED to. That is the main takeaway here. Just try to be more intentional. The goal here is for you to experience your summer to the fullest. Make some great memories, and remember: you don’t need to document every moment of it. Just try and be present.

Have an amazing summer!
