How I’m Improving My Self-Confidence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

Self-confidence, a trait we all aspire to have and yet, you will find it is not that easy to obtain. With a little hard work, it is achievable. On New Year’s Eve 2016, I had a conversation with my cousin about finding myself and I decided to make it my new year’s resolution. However, it was not until the summer that I really started this journey. During this journey, I found myself opening up more and more often, which is a sign of great progress considering I used to hide all of my emotions.

Since I have started opening up, I began to realize which people in my life really cared about my well-being. This has not only helped me distance myself from those who did not seem to care much but also helped me live a happier life. I am much happier now than I ever have been and this also helped to improve my confidence. Confidence really is key and it has greatly improved my life. I cannot tell you that I am fully confident in myself but I am much more confident than I was in the past. L

ast year, my freshman year of college, I used to pretty much only wear sweatpants, never dressing up unless I had to, but now, I dress nice more often just because, just for me to give me a little pep in my step. A few weeks into the school, I started seeing a therapist weekly, and she has been giving me exercises to help build my confidence. One of those was to look myself in the mirror every day until my next appointment, at least, and compliment myself. I did not think it would help at all but shockingly enough, after saying nice things to myself so many times, I really started believing everything I was saying.

My message to you is to have confidence in yourself, it will drastically improve your life. This is just a piece of my story but I hope it can motivate you in some way, if you struggle with being/feeling confident.
