4 Steps for Success During a Month Long Workout Challenge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ICU (Japan) chapter.

Whether it’s to be healthy, gain muscle, become stronger, or to lose weight, many people with to workout everyday if they could. During high school, I would workout every day to fit in my dress for prom. Since I moved back to Japan and away from my parents, I started to eat out more often and I stopped frequenting the gym, especially since the gym at my university is not very organized. But I decided to do a one month workout challenge to prepare for a trip to Bali with my friends. Here are the four steps I took to achieve success in this challenge!

Set a Goal

It’s important to set a goal when you begin working out—or when you start any new challenge, actually! If your goal is to be healthy, you can just organize your diet and do small workouts two or three times a week. To gain muscle, you’ll need to go to the gym to workout with weights, making sure to work on different muscle groups each day. My personal goal for this challege was to get fit and train my core in order to have a line in my abs.

Find Your Favorite YouTube Workouts!

Once you’ve set a goal for yourself, you want to find the perfect coach to train you to achieve those goals. What’s really convenient is that you can find the right coach for you on YouTube!

Since I wanted to train my core and get fit, Pamela Reif became my favorite coach! Pamela posts quick and effective high-intensity bodyweight workouts that are typically no longer than ten minutes. Her workouts generally involve no equipment, which makes them convenient as wall! There’s no narration in her videios either, which more seasoned gym rats might prefer, if you only like to listen to music. She offers full body HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts, as well as workouts that target specific muscle groups or workouts to popular songs.

Keep Going!

It can be hard to workout every day if you aren’t used to it, but if you stay strong for the first three days, you can easily continue for a week and, before you know it, you’ll have kept it up for the whole month! Your strength will build up over time!

Pamela has also posted three different home workout plans, only using YouTube videos for 30 minutes per session, 45 minutes per session, and even a beginner friendly schedule.

Get Results

And.. I did it! I got light abs and, most importantly, I got more motivation and became physically and mentally stronger! The one month workout challenge wasn’t much harder than had I expected! In fact, it was actually fun because I got to workout with my friends every day and the workout became part of my daily routine.

With enough diligence, hard work, and fun, you’re bound to achieve your workout goals and see the results you had been hoping for as well!

Unfortunately, my Bali trip got canceled because of the Coronavirus pandemic—but you know what that means: this challenge will keep going until I can finally visit Bali or somewhere nice where I can chill out on the beach!

You can start your own workout challenge by setting your goal, finding your favorite YouTube workouts, and by keeping it up. It can be a great way to get fit and kill time during your quarantine!
