Stay in Shape Through Campus Rec’s Fall Challenges

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

As almost one month has passed since the start of the fall semester, classes and extracurricular activities are beginning to require more of a daily commitment. For many students, it might be tempting to let other important daily tasks such as staying active and spending time outdoors fall to the back burner. However, FSU Campus Rec is determined to motivate students to be active all semester long.

Currently, Campus Rec is publicizing two challenges to encourage students to conquer their fitness goals.

FSU Campus Recreation Group Fitness T-Shirt Challenge

From Sep. 16 until Oct. 11, students are able to participate in the Group Fitness T-Shirt Challenge by taking group fitness classes. This includes classes at both the Leach Recreation Center and the Fitness and Movement Clinic. Any class offered at either gym location will be eligible to count for the challenge including yoga, pilates, barre, spin, and F45. At the conclusion of the first class you attend during this window, the class instructor will provide you with a challenge card to keep track of how many classes you attend before Oct. 11. For every class you attend after this, you will bring your challenge cards with you. Instructors will sign the card at the end of every class to prove that you were in attendance.

If you have 10 instructor signatures on your card, meaning you attended 10 classes, you will receive a free Group Fitness tank top to commend you for your dedication to taking fitness classes.

You can sign up for group fitness classes by downloading the FSU Campus Rec app. Most classes require sign-ups that open up 25 hours in advance via the app, but there are also classes that accept walk-ins. All classes are free for FSU students with a valid student ID.

Outdoor Campus Challenge

Campus Rec is also participating in a nationwide challenge called the Outdoor Campus Challenge. As a school, Florida State has partnered with the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE), along with 97 other colleges in the country. The goal of the challenge is to prove that FSU is the university that is most active outdoors.

From now until Oct. 13, you can participate in the challenge and help FSU take home the title of National Outdoor Champion.

Students can join the challenge by downloading the AORE Campus Challenge app and joining Florida State’s team. This is where you can earn points for FSU by logging outdoor activities throughout the day. 2 points are given for activities such as gardening and arts and crafts, 5 points are given for activities like walking, skateboarding, and outdoor yoga, and 10 points are given for camping, cycling, paddle sports, outdoor service projects, and much more. There are also extra categories of bonus points that can be earned.

By logging time spent and activities completed outdoors, students can win free outdoor gear as well as help FSU’s goal.
