How to Revive Yourself Post-Recruitment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Thanks to Snowstorm Jonas, we were #blessed with an extra week between recruitment rounds to catch up on homework and sleep. Even with these few days of freedom, pref night and bid day can be exhausting enough to require a mental and physical therapy session. Need some tips on how to revive yourself? Read on—with recruitment finally over, now the real fun begins.

1. You just received your bid and got to spend a full day celebrating with your new sisters. No doubt you took TONS of pics that will be perfect for future #TBT posts. (Don’t forget to throw what you know!) Now that you have some free time, you can edit these pictures to perfection and post them to all your social media sites. Show your sorority pride and enjoy the memories.

2. After a weekend of granola bars and pizza provided by Emory Panhel, you’re probably craving a good, healthy meal. Rather than your typical DUC dinner, set up a date with some upperclassmen in your sorority. They’ll know the best restaurant spots and can give you the ins and outs of your sisterhood. Bonus: keep your eyes open for a future big!

3. You’ve likely spent the past three weeks talking about recruitment non-stop and maybe have been slacking on your calls home. Now is the perfect time to give the ’rents a more in-depth review of what you’ve been up to. If you’re like me and haven’t had a second to catch up with your home friends, consider scheduling a Facetime call to get the scoop on everyone’s semesters and reveal your new “sratty” self.

4. You’ve just spent a significant amount of time shaking hands, hugging, crying, and screaming, and are probably not feeling at your peak. Use this next week to create a routine, get lots of sleep, and maybe even exercise a bit. Be sure to catch up on all the homework and studying you’ve avoided, too. If you’re in a rut, explore your lodge and find a new study spot. Personally, I’m a fan of my lodge’s kitchen, where I can spread out my papers and socialize while working.

5. Get pumped for the rest of your college career! You will have plenty of social, philanthropy, and sisterhood events to fill up your planner for the semester. With your new sisters by your side, you’ll make incredible memories and have people to support you through all the ups and downs. Aren’t you glad you went Greek?!
