Lately, we have all had those days where we feel demotivated and feel like we cannot be productive. While it is crucial that we take care of our physical body during this pandemic and remote term, we must also never forget how important it is to take care of our mental health.

Here are 10 ways you can take care of your mental health during this period of online classes:

A Dose of Nature

Fresh air, sunshine, chirping birds and squirrels — spending time outdoors can be refreshing, rejuvenating and just the change of atmosphere that you need in order to restore and preserve your mental health. Put some sneakers on and go out for a calming walk in the neighborhood or even go out to a park to sit and breathe in the fresh, crisp air. Either way, this short trip outside can go a long way.

Meditation

Meditation has been known to help those with stress, anxiety and those who need to start their day off on a calm note. Apps such as Calm, Headspace and Aura are the perfect apps to use in order to sit down and relax your mind.

Change Up Your Surroundings

Something as simple as changing the layout of our desk can mentally stimulate you. So, if you ever need a change of surroundings, move around your furniture, buy some new room decorations or simply just change up the way your desk is arranged and you may feel like a brand new person in a brand new room!

Getting Some Exercise In

Sitting at a desk all day can not only take a toll on you physically, but mentally as well. Not having anything to get your blood running and your endorphins released, can have you feeling like life is rather dull and unexciting. So, watch some home exercise videos and follow along, get on your home treadmill, go out for a run or even make up your own exercise and get pumped for the day!

‘Digital Detox’ at the End of the Day

After a day of work, “detox” from anything electronic or from the Internet to give your eyes and mind a break. This can include putting your phone and laptop away to cook, listen to music, read, nap, take a walk, bake, spend time with friends or family, etc.

A Moment for Self-Care

It is always important to take care of your body and features by caring for yourself in various ways. A few examples of self-care can include doing a face mask, taking a bath, shaving/waxing, a haircut or anything that involves making yourself feel more confident and comfortable in your body.

Get Enough Sleep

While it is known to all people that getting a good amount of sleep is necessary to function, we all almost always fail to get that required amount. In order to avoid this and give your eyes a break from staring at the screen all day, set a time every day that will be “bedtime.” Make sure to be done with work and ready for bed at that time in order to get enough rest to be ready for the next day.

In addition to the listed suggestions, make sure to do what makes YOU happy and what keeps your mental health in check. It is always important to take care of your mind, body and soul.
