7 advices a senior would give newcomers about the first year of college

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

The start of college can be an exciting and challenging time for any student. After all, it is the beginning of a whole new life, with new challenges and opportunities. But, on the other hand, it’s an environment that you’ve never been in, with people you don’t know. So, it can also be a little scary. To help Cásper Líbero’s freshmen adjust to college life, here is some advice that I, as a senior, think might be helpful for their first year at college. Check it out!

Take the time to get to know the place

Take some time to explore every inch of your college, learn about the resources available and the student organizations that are available. Participating in events and activities can help you integrate into the university community.

Learn to manage your time:

College can be quite demanding in terms of time and it is important to find a balance between study, work and leisure. Create a study calendar and organize your tasks to avoid procrastination and manage your time more efficiently.

Make connections and take good care of your networking

Meet your professors and classmates, join study groups and clubs to build connections and networking. Trust me, these connections can be valuable throughout your academic and professional career.

Keep an open mind

College is a place where you will be introduced to new ideas, perspectives and cultures. Be open to learning from others and be willing to try new things. You will not only make friends more easily, but also learn a lot from your classmates.

Take care of your physical and mental health

It’s easy to get caught up in the exciting and busy college routine, but don’t forget to take care of your physical and mental health. Try your best to maintain a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and exercise. Also, seek help if you feel you are emotionally overwhelmed, it can make all the difference.

Set clear goals

Set goals for your freshman year of college and work hard to achieve them. This will help you stay focused and motivated, and it is a way to measure your progress over time. So think about what’s most important to you in this first year that you don’t want to miss out on: get an internship, make more friends, start a research project, study harder…write it all down and put your mind to it!

Allow yourself to go to all of Cásper’s parties this first year

College wouldn’t be the same without the parties! In your freshman year, allow yourself to experience all of the parties from your first year of college. So you try a little bit of everything and know, for the years to come, what is and is not cool for you. We all know that the first year of college and the first experiences acquired are never forgotten. In particular, the first Cásper party is a milestone in the life of any student there. Allow yourself to have your first official university experience enjoying with friends, with lots of good music, cold beer and Chupingole – our classic college drink made with strawberry juice, soda and vodka. You won’t regret it!

But above all, enjoy college and all the wonders and hardships that come with it! Believe it or not, four years goes by really fast and, before you know it, you’ll be a senior too. So make it count!
